Hi All.

21s two wheels need replacing. The optional 21s are proving to be the weak point of ownership here.

2.5k for two new wheels..bugger.

Seems so :(

PS surely that is not the price for wheels only? New normal 21s and PE available for a lot less if so. E.g.
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BRAND-NEW-GEN ... SwCGVX6q31

Plus, I would worry same thing going to happen again. Might after market 21s be better investment? Or the dished 20s - mine seem as tough as old boots, and I prefer no angst and a silky smooth ride to the extra muscle the 21s lend the car.

That is the fitted price...£1050+vat+fitting for each - we are discussing the discount I will get. I know what you mean about the chance of it going again - especially as I can't remember hitting anything in the 7.5k miles I have done - but this is only two of the four that have gone - if I replace all that is £3.2k + fitting (on the wheels you link to above), plus if go aftermarket it could be an issue to move it on at later date.

I am going to write a letter to AUK. On the basis that if more people send letters, at some point they need to accept it is an issue. They had one person in the dealer a couple of weeks before with the same issue, had it independantly assessed etc and still got a 'Nein' from AUK.

-- to answer the other question it is not PE wheels, it is the double 5 spoke 21s which were an option on the 2014/5 cars.

Can I suggest involving Trading Standards as well? They may well consider it a safety issue as it is to do with wheels so you would have them looking into as well, which would definitely give you more clout with AUK.

Also if there are enough owners with the same issue it may well be worthwhile contacting AutoExpress to see if they would be willing to help...

Could I also suggest a forum thread to just collect details of people that have had the issue, details of how it was dealt with, which dealer etc.

No discussion or going off topic, just a directory of forum members that have had buckled wheels.

Then when there are enough people, send the link to Audi, trading standards, and watchdog.

Has anyone had any issues with the Performance wheels? I know bit_evl has the Performance wheels but I don't think anyone is certain that the wheels are the root cause of his issues. It seems that everyone else that has reported am issie has had the original style 21s.

I'm not on the Performance...I'm on original 21” x 9.5J ‘5-twin-spoke’ design titanium-look alloy wheels and have 3 out of 4 buckled according to Southend Audi...

my car is running 20s and they are the original wheels never been replaced and done 35k. looks like this is specific to the 21, could it be size related or possibly compound/construction of the wheel?

The 21s have lower profile tyres so have less protection.

I agree, tehre needs to be a dedicated thread (sticky ideally!) where people simply post the age, mileage of their cars together with what wheels and tyres they have and detail the problem.

I've gone aftermarket 21".

My car had a slight vibration at speed on OEM wheels.

But I was aware I had lost a couple of wheel weights...not sore if it was this or wheels buckled

Is this happening on the coils and air?

Deep dish 20's on air - no problems in 8k miles.

You need to spacer and lower the car to prevent the wheels buckling....proven fact :bigblink:

And...anyone who runs the winter 20"s plays the skin flute...true story bra.... :beerchug:
