Cigar Lighter Power Question

So, I haven't yet wired in my blackvue camera to an ignition switched supply (or put in the special battery monitoring box).

And then of course last night I parked up leaving the camera plugged in and on via cigar lighter socket.

Just remembered, ran outside expecting a flat battery, but the camera was off and apart from the car pretending not to find the smart key for a second it started fine.

Does it have a protection circuit on the cigar lighter when the ignition is off or was I just lucky?

If it is protected then I will just leave the camera permanently plugged in. (But when I left it plugged in on my Aston I came back to heathrow to find it dead in the car park - cue 3 hour wait for RAC with jump leads and a tough experience to get in).

On my B7 most of the ignition switched stuff turns off either after about half an hour with the ignition off but car not locked or about 1 minute after the car is locked. Maybe the C7 is similar.

On my C7 (FL), the cigarette lighter socket in the center armrest has no power unless the ignition is on.

I have a combined dashcam/speed trap detector wired into it (an Aguri Fusion GTX100) and I know the above to be true as the unit only comes to life on firing up the ignition. It also goes off immediately on turning off the ignition.

Still considering whether to have the unit hardwired or not.

Hope this helps.
