New car spec advice

Post by Christiaan » Thu Dec 15, 2016 10:11 pm

Hi Guys,
I used to have an RS4 (B7) but having had a little time away form Audi, and being a bit older (with 2 kids now), I've decided I need a sensible family car to do the school run in.

So, RS6 it is....

Ready to pull the trigger on factory order in Daytona Grey with brushed Ali styling pack....

However, my problem is the wheels, so I'm after some friendly advice.

I really like the look of the standard 20's with the really deep dish (especially the rears), and I think they suit DG with the aluminium accents, but they are clearly not very popular, as most, if not all cars I've seen have the 21's.
Also I'm hearing lots of negative reviews of the 21's with regards to buckling.... Is this affecting the 20's too?

If I went for the 20's, will the car look underwheeled (seems rediculous to think am estate car can look underwheeled on 20's, but hey)?
Or should I drop the extra £2k on the Titanium 21's?

Over to you guys....

I have the 20s it does look slightly underwheeled however, I think you can counter that by lowering suspension a bit. That will give a better visual presence. Although I am still considering a 21.

I loved the deep dished look of the 20's and ordered on those - this was 2 years ago when the emissions were under the lower band with the 20's as well. Not sure if the case now.

6 months later I bought some 21's from Germany and not looked back - no real difference in ride quality and the car looks a whole lot meaner and more purposeful.

Thought I would use the 20's for winters but can't bring myself to put them back on.

The RS6 with 21's looks 10/10 aggressive. An RS6 on 20's looks 7/10 aggressive.

I think it looks a little lost on 20's personally and loses that aggressive appeal. However, good comment above, you may be able to hide some of this with lowering.

The car will be less desireable when selling on also, the 21's are a must for the majority of would be owners (like you have already identified)

I agree with you though, I think the 20" are actually a nicer wheel, i just think the car looks a little lost on them sadly.

It's looking like I need to add another £2k to the budget then!

So, with Daytona should I go plain, black or titanium 21's?

20s look good in the flesh - particularly the dish - but not as aggressive as 21s. Depends what you like. I prefer the understated look. And, having had a BMW, I am fed up with buckled wheels and lumpy rides. Yet to hear of a twenty inch buckling. And the roads around me are bumpy and potholed.
Bottom line. Buy what you like and ignore everyone else's opinion.

As above, the 20's look really good in the flesh, just a shame they aren't an inch bigger. I really like the Performance 21" wheels in the flesh too.

You could always spend the 2k on a set of aftermarket alloys but would need tyres too if speccing the 20s from factory.

Therein lies your problem (or as i see it your bonus), by the time you put 21's, styling pack, sports exhaust, privacy etc on a normal RS6, you might as well get the PE for a fraction more because the PE has all that as standard.

I think on a standard car the bigger wheels certainly look better. However, when lowered and on spacers the 20s actually look great.

In fact, this video basically MADE me buy an RS6; and it's on 20s. So aggressive!

Must admit

Them 20"s when lowered and spaced look good

Look even better if they weren't black as you'd see dish and shape better!

Why anyone would get the dreadful OEM winter 20's after seeing these is beyond me.

So my mind is made up on size... Definitely the 21's (although I might try to pick up some 20's for a winter set up).

I've also ruled out the black gloss bi-colour wheels, so its down to the plain/polished vs the titanium....

Thoughts please guys for a Daytona car...

RSQ that car looks amazing. PE I assume?
My concerns relate to the titanium colour being so similar to Daytona, therefore not providing sufficient contrast between wheels and body.

PE. But I think titanium on Daytona is fine. It is just light enough to contrast IMHO
