Need a sense-check, I'm planning for an RS6 and have a few options but the one I want advice on is to use the car as my daily covering around 22-25k miles per year with about 85% of that being Motorway. The plan is:

- PCP over 3-years
- 22-25,000m per year
- guessing £500 per month in V-Power @ 22mpg (have no idea what to expect on Mway at going with the flow in fast lane kind of speeds)
- Audi Finance reckons £33k final payment (probably trade in against a C8 RS6)

My real concern is whether using it as a daily for 22k per year will cause the RS6 not to look, or 'feel', special, and therefore be a complete waste of money. But a second later my mind says what could be better than an RS6 for this kind of use? I have motorbikes and a tuned MX-5 for fun at weekends. I need a family car that answers all my needs and I just keep coming back to the C7 RS6. I have other options such as have an RS6 for 10k per year and a mile-muncher for another 12k, which would keep the RS6 more special, but I think I'd be pee'd driving a muncher all day with a pristine RS6 tucked up in the garage.

Am I mad running such a car for for such high mileage? I've talked myself out of this once before but cannot shake the RS6 need!

Go for it, what better way to do 22k miles per year. As long as you can stomach the fuel, servicing, tyres, brakes etc and depreciation for a high miler (various ways of doing this with PCP) the why not. The only problem I have now I'm driving all the way to work is that it sometimes takes a while to get out the car park cos everyone wants to talk about the car so it still feels special.

2k miles a month at 300 on a tank with petrol prices only going one way is more like 600-700 a month in fuel.

It'll also up your insurance premium, if that matters.

Personally it might as well be a nice A6 or similar for that mileage. You're not going to see the best trudging up and down a motorway.

33k seems optimistic on a 70k, 3 year old C7. I reckon that'd be above book. You should factor in the pain our economy is likely to see in that period.

Also, quite likely a car ordered now will see the new road tax regime which might also dampen long term value.

Do it. Life is too short and RS6 will make you smile for 22,000 miles a year. I will commute in mine.

....in my humble opinion RS6 is not special enough for the YOLO vote.

Do it. I cover 15k pa in mine. As for fuel it will easily trouble 30mpg on motorways at good speeds. But that is only a small part of the costs.

I agree re some of the prices being towards man-math end of the spectrum. I would add a little fat for tyres, insurance, exceptional items (speeding tickets).

However if you can still afford it and are going to be spending that much time in the car then I say why not. I get an average of 20mpg but if you are sensible you should improve on that. It is a quiet and smooth cruiser so good for that bit. It is a monster of a motor.

However, there is a monumental difference price wise between buying new and buying a 6 month old with 5-10k on the clock. So all your savings will come buying, not selling.

It boils down to what Ian just said, combined with whether or not you can find a used car of the right spec.
If what you need in terms of options is unique then order your own.

We just bought a car recently that was very difficult to spec (we wanted loads of rare options), but in the end effectively got it as a demonstrator because the dealer ordered it and ran it for 3 months. Roughly 75% of brand new (before discounts) list price, only 3K on the clock and driven by one sales manager as his "daily" plus him with clients as a demonstrator. Had to travel a fair way to sort this out though....

Sometimes its worth it. Did two round trips from Bedford to Poole and back to get our family A3 daily, approaching 30% off and two free services thrown in, six months old. Would probably be impossible to find another of the same spec if anything happens to it!

Edit to add - can definitely recommend the current 8V as a daily. Just find one with a few toys, HD Nav touch etc

22k pa I would suggest a V6 twin turbo diesel

My current company car is a XF 2.2D doing about 42mpg. Very comfy R-Sport Black run out model which is part of my other option: run the XF for 12-15k miles as I've known the car from new with FDSH and much better MPG, then keep RS6 for the other 10k miles, thus keeping it 'special' ?

Yeah ha, that would be the Plan, just the small matter of buying the 3 year old XF at the end of the term and factoring that cost into the overall 'what's best' solution.
