What tyres?

Hi Folks,

Is there an agreed best tyre for our cars other than the OEM choice? I've been offered P Zeros with some aftermarket wheels, but no idea if they are an improvement or just recommended because they are cheaper (just guessing).

Cheers,
Rob

Easy one, michelin pilot super sports are easily the best tyre you can put on.

+1 for MPSS over the ContiSilent- not sure about Dunlop or Pirelli as I haven't run them at this size before.

+1 for MPSS. Dunlops have been a little hit and miss for me in the past.

I had a set of MaxxSportRace on the back of the MB E63 which were wonderful when hot but horrible on a different scale when cold. For the 4000 miles I had then last. They made an enormous difference to the grip on the E63 but when they wore out I went to the MPSS and they were within 10% but did not suffer the shocking cold/start performance.

+1 for MPSS as great tyre but tendency to thrum on two cars I have driven with them (my wife's 997 included). Are they very noisy on the 6?

Intresting? What do you mean by "thrum"?

I'm on MPSS on think I know what you mean??

Hard to describe. A bit like the noise you notice when switching to winters. But the 997 runs 305 rears and is renowned for road noise. DB rating for MPSS is ok - but they definitely thrum/whine more than pilot sport.

Dropping round the m25 by the a3 the road is slabs of concrete and <beep>. I found them incredibly noisey then.

But worth it still! They felt great.

MPSS - don't even consider anything else! Transformed my RS4, need not say more...

To repeat what has already been said. Pilot. Super. Sport.

i have the pss, and i am not very satisfy

on my bmw m135i , the pss is perfect tyres.
on my c63 amg not evident there s the best
on my x5m is like on rs6..they slip
on the rs6...is not the glue, they re more louder than the stock tyres, they re not more perfomant than the stock tyres.

+1 for MPSS - swapped from the Conti's last week and the difference in road noise is night and day. MPSS so much quieter

Worn tyres always way noisier than new ones so that is what you are noticing. Both MPSS and Contis have exactly the same noise rating at 73dBA when new.
