Who has tracked the C7, and do you think it's worth it, or still too big and heavy to have any proper fun? I tracked my B7 which I enjoyed, but never bothered with C6 as always felt too big and wallowy, wondering if people finding the C7 to be dynamic enough to warrant a track day .....

Too big and heavy IMO.

Depends what you want from it. Every car can go on a track that doesn't endanger those around!

First thing I did with the c6 was take it to the Nurburgring for a few laps. It was great fun, but you're spot on with it just not feeling right. Understeer and pure power don't do well on a track. But the c7 should be far better.

I'm sure there was a thread on here a couple of years ago about why the c7 was originally delayed by a year. I think it was because Audi had just signed the racers for the 24h and gave them the keys and track for the c7. Both gave back the keys after a couple of laps and so Audi reengineered it to push the engine even further back than they had. So it should be a whole lot better than the c6.

But what's the consumables like? Brake disks and pads, every three track days? Tyres, four or five? Oil changes, etc. Just cost those in and work out if it makes sense economically.

Or just book a track day and do it worst case you don't enjoy it and you've wasted a few hundred on the finding that it for sure.

I'll be getting something new soon, so if you fancy a weekend at the ring. I'm up for it

Can't say I am tempted. Great family/road car but always going to be struggling on track. Take something else.

This was discussed recently. Most opinions were that it wasn't worth it but one guy either thought it was a good idea or had taken his on the track.

I was surprised to find a few do take them on track. I see it as a complete waste of time and money!

You could buy an old Clio Sport or MX5 which will be more fun and cost about the same as replacing the tyres and pads on an RS6...

Mind you the spectacle of seeing an Estate car really gunning it around a track might be fun to watch- well maybe on the straigher bits. It would be an ideal car to drag something else to the ring with though- Kudos all round!

I thought as much, definitely not worth it unless you have money to burn! I suppose that is the attraction of the 4 over the 6.....

Depends what you want to get out of it. If it's to have some fun and enjoy speed you can't on the public road why not.. I've tracked other big powerful saloons and GT cars and it's good fun and actually surprising how quick they can be.

I second this, and even track my C5 from time to time. Although not usually more than a couple of sessions, so evening track days are a good way to have a bit of fun without completely shredding tyres and brakes. idk if the C7 has the same characteristic, but lift off oversteer coupled with lots of power can make for a fun way to avoid understeer lol. Just remember to get the car around the bend before applying throttle, unless you're sideways, then just gun it lol.

You'll want to turn the ESP off if you can too, otherwise brakes will overheat faster. Make sure you leave time to ease off and do a cooldown lap or too as well.

The nurburgring is much better for these beasts imo, more flowing so everything stays cooler and tyres last longer. If you never take it on track in the uk make sure you take it to Germany!

Yes, thinking I might book a half day and just do a few fast laps. These cars are so capable/fast, it's a rare occasion that you can use the car 'properly' on the road. Thinking might do an evening at Rockingham. Never been to Rockingham before...

I struggle to understand the very negative feedback about RS6's and track days, especially from the huge amount who haven't tracked their RS6's at least once so they can claim they have the experience. There's a few of us that really enjoyed doing the odd track day and a few who have done it and decided not to do another but if you haven't tried how can people be so certain it'll be crap?

I can't think of another way of finding the limits of the car whilst having fun in a safe environment, and yes, I said fun because regardless of the "if it isn't a stripped out lightweight racer it'll be rubbish" brigade it is "fun" driving these cars at the limit. Would a proper track car be more "fun", probably, but that doesn't mean the RS6 won't also be fun, just in a different way.

Now, if it was doing a track day every week/month then I would choose something different but for the handfull a year I do I have a blast!

Not for one moment saying that my beloved RS6 is any away crap, and I have had plenty of fun with it...but at the end of the day it is NO sports car. No doubt lots of of fun can be had on the track with it- hell my T5 van would be fun on any track- but just like my RS it doesn't belong on a track either. Different strokes for different folks and it is totally up to the OP whether he chooses to track it or not- if yes then it will be fun, not necessarily pretty but it will be fun and even more so if it was in someone else's RS [just not in mine!]

The definition of "RS" (RennSport/Racing Sport). These are mind blowingly good cars, i think you lot have fallen to the family wagon disguise lol. These are wolves in sheeps clothes, not a chavved up A4/6

They're no slouch on track and will embarrass a lot of true 'sports cars'. They just happen to be big boned and not anorexic.

Edit: I fear I have overstated things (At least for the C5, the C7 should be massively better) high speed corners it'll stick with most stuff. Tight, low speed corners took a bit more patience though. Tracks days are for fun anyway, you don't have to be pushing 10/10'ths
