Dynamic steering
Out of nowhere, I decided to go and test drive the new RS6 today. After owning a C5 Plus and my current C6 Plus, I was curious to know what the fuss was about, and after selling the GTR last year, there's a hole in the fun department that isn't being filled by the current C6.
The car was good, very good. Resolves the main issue that I have with the C6; the weight and very heavy steering, and despite being marginally larger, the newer car feels like a much smaller and more chukkable car to drive. The only thing that I didn't like was the lifeless steering. The car I drove had the Sports pack with DRC and Dynamic steering.
So the question I have is, has anyone driven the car WITHOUT the dynamic steering, and is it any better? Tbh I don't really understand the benefit of dynamic steering - am I better saving myself a grand and speccing a car without it?
I'm surprised how much people are spending on the options list. I've spent time going through all options, and honestly 90% of them seem to be ridiculous gimmicks tbh, simply designed to relieve you of extra £££. Wheels and exhaust I'll be going aftermarket, so the only options that I'm thinking of speccing are:
- DRC coil spring suspension
- Keyless go w/hand free boot
- Heated rear seats
- Individual paint
- Side airbags
- Black pack

PS - Anyone know the normal wait time for an RS6?

I have driven both (back it back), and to be honest IMO both are equally inert.
I prefer the shorter wheel travel you have with dynamic, it makes the cars steering feel more responsive to me, i like it but it's probably just a preference based on what I have been used to. My current rs6 is dynamic and my PE will be as well.

You see, I disagree on HUD. I'd have it if it didn't have that <beep> plastic box on the dash. Looks cheap and is guaranteed to rattle and creak eventually.
Ceramics, ACC, DRC and phone box/connect would be must haves for me.

I don't think it looks cheap, but I agree it isn't pretty ! Clearly an afterthought. I think the advantages of it, particularly for quick reference of speed, edge pass its disadvantages. Function more important than form for me on this.

I drove both and went DRC with normal steering. From memory some road tests come to similar conclusion. But either way, steering is hardly full of feel.

Agree, road tests rate steering as relatively inert but acceptable....
But remember, just about all of the road test cars that Audi released were dynamic pack. I have yet to read any comparative reviews.
The dynamic rack is noticeable (even significantly) quicker, what sort of verification do you want ?
Whether it's better - that's opinion, not sure it could be verified. Try both yourself.
One of the negatives that worried me related to how consistent the variability of the steering would be. Some reports of earlier systems didn't inspire confidence and confused driver in relation how much input would be needed. On a track this may be a problem, no idea, on the road I don't notice any issue at all, it's just quicker , and the variability appears seamless.

For what it's worth I felt the dynamic steering accentuated the torque steer some complain of - I noticed it on accelerating to overtake over the crown of a B road. I run my own car (non dynamic) in Comfort steering setting mostly and have not noticed the same issue. But I have 20 inch wheels so that may be a factor too. Or it was a trait in the demo car only.

Eight weeks for a spec changeable car....maybe even quicker. 15% discount if you take the PCP deal which can be paid off quickly so you retain the discount.Ceveman73 wrote:
