Blast from the past... C7 or 991.2?

Evening... A few familiar names still on here is reassuring to see.
I had a C5 for about 4 years that i bought in 2005 when i was approaching my 30th... put a bucket load of miles on it, absolutely loved it and cost me more than a mistress... worth every penny. The owner of my car is still on here. The C6 didn't really do it for me so I moved on elsewhere.
I still have my RS6 key ring, with me every day.
I'm 40 this month and am thinking of buying a birthday present (from my 4 year old daughter)... whilst you lot are clearly biased... do i return to the family and order a C7 RS6 or the new 991.2 911?

Hey mate
Definitely definitely drive the C7 rs6, its an animal, back to the genuine halo RS days ..
But..
C7 or 991.2 ?
Different beasts in my mind
If you want the ultimate motorway munching, supercar surprising family car you can take to the outlaws its the C7
As above to Tescos its the B8 RS4
991 is something different for me

That makes me feel not too bad, spending only £145k on a dream 911R in the configurator.

Totally different cars. If you want an all out drivers car then the 911 is calling. If you need back doors and a decent boot then its the C7.

Already been said really but if you must have the practicality then the Audi. Otherwise the 911 (although I am biased), love 911s they are just (imo) sublime to drive.

Surely figuring out what you want the car for will make the decision for you - every day animal that doubles as a family wagon, or weekend toy to be enjoyed alone out in the twisties? They both will do every day and hooning rather well, but there's an obvious favourite for either use.

The non GT 911's are more practical than you might think. Of course not up to C7 standards, but the rear seats are usable, storage is ample & certainly capable of being a daily driver for all but the most extreme tasks.

They are practical in the sense that you can put some shopping in, quite a bit if you use the rear seats and shelf too. The MPG is (on mine at least) better than the RS6. Depreciation is lower but they aren't practical for moving family around unless they are fairly young children or short. Our height ranges from 5 9 (girls) to 6 4 and none of them want to be in the back of the Porsche on a journey of any significance

The only rear seat passengers i'd likely be carrying are a 2 yr old in an Isofix car seat & an 11yr old so definitely practical enough for me, although even then it would be rare to transport the kids in anything other than the Wife's car.

Cheers all... pretty much daily driver for me in reality, with occasional wife and 4yr old daughter. Its pure timing that I can get away with a sportier car for the next few years. Have a 640d Gran Coupe at present and its a great car, one of the best interiors available and the engine and technology is pretty impressive, Is my second one, this one is couple years old and has about 50k miles on it now. Had a look at 911 as daughter is ideal age, I think she wants to buy it me for my birthday
The issue is that the 911 is frowned upon by my work, whilst ironically the RS6 is just about passable... they don't like sports cars, and in particular don't like 2dr cars, so they would if it came to the push, prefer me to have the stealth of the RS6 rather than the perceptional bling of the 911. 6 series had a few raised eyebrows... they'd prefer me to have a 520d lol. no way I would as a petrol head, would at least be the D5 Alpina.
I don't have any need for the space... I simply have a soft spot for RS6's, I forget how many miles I put on the C5, was something like 3,000+ miles in my first month of ownership, truly epic cars! I average about 22,000 miles a year at present. Haven't driven a C7 yet, had a drive of a Carerra, incredible performance for the simple 3l lump, nice touch with the little toggle wheel on the steering wheel and the grin factor pressing the ballistic mode button.
Porsche garage are loaning me a 911 tomorrow so I can see if i can overcome wife politics, before i start on the work issue... will try to book an RS6 soon.

We are on our 9th 911 (991.2 con), and compared to the last one (997.2 con) the 991 is light years
ahead, totally different car, beautiful to drive and admire!
That said, I am awaiting delivery of a RS6 per, hopefully sometime in April, will post photos when it happens!!
