Post by Paulm » Fri Nov 27, 2015 12:24 pm

How you guys insuring your cars??

Really struggling. My insurance Privilege is over 2k (my GTR was £245) and want a tracker. Audi wont insure me due to cars value? Ever heard the like?

Any help much appreciated picking the car up tonight

With Aviva who required a tracker but don't play name your options bingo. Elephant/Admiral would insure with no tracker but you had to name options. Audi's quotes are always ridiculous.

Always dependent on the usual insurance criteria, but I had the same from Audi insurance; got the 7 days free and when I rang them for a quote they said they couldn't because of the value!!!

I went with Admiral as they didn't require a tracker and I think the quite was £600 (parked on the street in a city). I was with privilege before and I got about the same. They wanted to know where the car was going to be parked in the day and evening, whether there was CCTv at the house that might be pointing at the car and wanted a Cat 5 tracker.....Basically they didn't want the business

With DirectLine, Track Monitor mandatory and CCTV at the house - had it already but need to show certificate. Had to go via their underwriters though but always found them ok.

+1 for Admiral. Approx £600 and tracker was optional. Direct line were over £2K and insisted on a tracker; I had been with them for years with a multi vehicle policy and no claims ever! In my experience, once you get above £75K most companies won't touch you without a tracker. For the majority of RS6 s. after 1 year, the book value will be below the £75K threshold so you need to do the maths to see if you are happy paying £2K and then around £500 to get a tracker fitted just to have your pick of insurance companies in the first year.

As above, put your insurance value in as £74,999 otherwise a lot of insurance companies will not quote you.

£74,999 pretty much covers an RS6 upto the value of £90k anyway with the discount. When they asked me vehicle value, I asked them if that was Sticker price or purchase price and they said how much you actually paid for it so told them £74,999. They wouldn't insure it at £75k+ and those that did required trackers.

LV for me. Just renewed at £432 for the year. Tracker required but no problem with the stated purchase price (£83K). A tracker is a good thing in my book, anyway, so I was very happy o go with LV.

I had looked at Admiral but they have a mind-bogglingly bad reputation when you need to make a claim. They only wanted £260 to insure for the year, which was so cheap I assume they wouldn't actually pay out anything in the event of a claim.

That's funny; I just moved away from LV as they insisted on a tracker on my 47k RS4 and my wifes 34k Discovery. 34k!

What if the Sticker price was £74500 and you part ex'ed and got say £34500 that would leave you to pay the £40k balance. So when asked by the insurance company what you did you actually pay out of the piggy bank £74.5k or £40k???. just a thought to get around this.As they would only pay market value which would depend on what market they were looking at.The fact that webuyanyoldbanger.whatever valued a £90k RS6 at wait for it ............ £50k ... .

Aviva when inquired said there was no extra on the policy if fitted with a aftermarket exhaust on my policy.

Admiral were fantastic when my RS was broken into in Paris, sister recently made a claim on her BMW and again, they were faultless.

I hate trackers. Had 3 or 4 now on different cars pain in the RS. If it gets stolen I don't want it back.

Will give Admaril a go.

No they don't. We had ours stolen in July only 3 weeks old and trust me they are not fitted as standard. We had it recovered and now has 1 fitted.
