Must have options

Post by S14 » Mon Nov 02, 2015 12:30 am

I am set on a C7 RS6 now as there will be an addition to the young family soon. I was looking at an R8 or porsche but after the good news had to be practical too.

Driving a TTRS as the go in between and its a real fun car!

Anyhow what are the musts in terms of spec?

Thanks

360 camera

power locking doors for when you're carrying the baby and didn't close the door fully it finishes closing itself.

I also added the pull up sun shade for the little one.

Assistance package in case you get distracted with crying baby in the back seat the Audi braking gard will kick in.

Must haves are a bit subjective, but I'd say dynamic pack is about the only must. The standard kit is pretty good, and the rest of the options are just toys really. Parking plus or 360 camera will help with the size of the car, comfort pack will help with... comfort... and 21" wheels look miles better but with a newborn you'd maybe be better off with the ride the 20"s give.

You want the sports exhaust noise as that will put the baby to sleep in no time :)

I would say the 21's are a must, the standard 20's look a little tame on the car. Even though the 20's are a nice wheel, they don't fill the wheel arch properly, you lose a little aggressiveness from the smaller wheels, something that the RS6 with its flared arches is designed to be. (Aggressive)

Depending on colour, I think the black theme adds to that 'aggression', high gloss black pack, mirrors and privacy glass completing that look.

As for toys inside, none of them are musts I would say. Reversing camera can be handy with such a big car but equally, the normal rear park sensors offer you a level of protection when parking up that makes the camera a nice to have but not a necessity. Sports exhaust? Depends on whether you plan on going aftermarket later on down the line? Suspension, the standard air suspension works really well in comfort mode, even on the 21's. Standard brakes are good enough for public roads, track, as its such a big heavy car, you would probably want the ceramics. I'm not convinced with the BOSE sound system, I find it plays deeper on Bluetooth than it does directly from my phone through the AMI cable but even then it doesn't blow me away. Bugger paying the £6k for the HK system though :audibash:

Heads up display although I don't have it in mine, seen it in an RS7 and thought it was great, not sure again if it's a must though.

Subjective question though, people will run through their own options lists, for me, number 1 has to be the wheels.

thanks guys

think dynamic pack, 21" wheels and 360 cam and soft close doors sound good

the C7 seems to look good in all colours imo except white..

Black optics, I'd have thought too. There aren't many colours where the aluminium look works.

Your spec depends how you use the car. I use it every day and rack up reasonably big miles so I have found ACC / Lane Assist invaluable on the motorway. HUD is very useful, too. You need Audi connect to round-out the MMI system's functionality - online traffic is brilliant. I wouldn't buy a car without keyless entry now that I have had it (ignore all the scare-mongering about whether it's secure or not - if they want to steal your car, they will, and keyless entry is no more or less secure than a conventional remote key fob).

If you're having a kid ( like I am now) I'd make sure you have the rear air bags, privacy glass and rear blinds. When I ordered mine the kid wasn't on the agenda so if it was now I was looking to order then those things I've mentioned would be my must haves.

Audi doesn't recommend the rear airbags if you have children I am afraid. They are not designed with children in mind.

Why?
My kids are grown up now but we never had those and I can't think of any reason to.

Aye, was going to say the same. Proper high backed car seat, ISOFIx ideally, cannot be beaten.

Did you never go anywhere sunny and they got sun in their eyes?

Don't necessarily need both, one or t'other probably OK.

I think from an early age they learned/were taught not to look at the sun.
Anyway, even back then most cars had some slight tint in the glass all round so it's not as bright as being outside, where they actually should be whenever possible.
If it gets warm, open the window a bit or crank up the aircon.
