DUNLOP TYRES PUNCTURE

Post by fabrs4 » Mon Mar 16, 2015 5:24 pm

Hi all,
so it was a reasonable weekend, thought I would take the wheels of and give them a good clean and wax and found a screw in the rear tyre, right in the centre no problem get it repaired, go round to the local independent, tyres comes off only to find there is a sponge strip glued to the inside of the tyre, the fitter or his boss had ever seen this so after a couple of calls including the Audi dealer ( no idea what we were talking about) it transpires the Dunlop 21" sport max is made for the Audi RS6 only and can not be repaired (this from the Dunlop importer) tyres only got 2000 miles on it any other tyre easy repair £15 job done. now £280 lighter. just a cautionary tale with those running these tyres beware, certainly will never buy Dunlop tyres ever again. forgot the phone so couldn't take a pic will add some pics on Thursday when its fitted.

The foam strip is designed to deaden out tyre noise.

Can't see why you can't just fit same spec tyre without it fitted to be fair?

I haven't got my RS6 yet so apologies for the newbie question but is there a 5th wheel, a space saver or a can of tyre foam in the boot for a punctured tyre? I really should have had a look when I had one on a test drive.

Cheers,

Ha ha, you're surely kidding.

No space. Gunk and compressor. Usual fare.

Well I'm not surprised that the importer told you that they could not be repaired. That's not what Kwik Fit have told me on the two occasions that I've had punctures in my foam lined Dunlops repaired by them. Foam liner is for noise reduction - nothing else. Some Contis have this too
