An alternative approach to Jon Olsens car.... This time liquid wrapped rather than film.

I've seen this approach to changing a cars colour scheme pop up more & more. From what I can gather, it can be cheaper (although the amount of detail these guys go to in this video I doubt it was cheap at all). Does anyone know if there are draw backs of this approach over a vinyl wrap?

These chaps in this video look top notch, but I have heard of instances where people have ended up pulling off the paint work when taking up the rubberised layer.

I would concur, I don't believe these guys would be cheaper than a wrap at all. I believe there are others that are, but won't be going to the same level of detail that these guys do! Pay peanuts......

I don't know. The wrap video posted by Parm the other day shows a vehicle wrap going into almost as much detail. lights and trim out etc. Then the very careful application of large sheets of vinyl. One screw up with that sheet of vinyl and you are cutting another one.

The rubberised paint requires a little more effort in covering up prior to spraying, but the application seems a lot more simple - point and squirt.

Single colour, I dare say there would be little difference in terms of cost. When it comes to the "cammo" type design, I would think a wrap would be cheaper as you dont need to keep doing various masking and unmasking, its just sticking a different shape piece of vinyl over the top of the previous layer, or using some preprinted design.

Plastidip seems to be a better choice.

Has anyone seen an rs6 c7 plastidipped? What are the risks with plastidip?

I would say it's the same risk as a wrapped car. Ie if any after market repairs have been done there is a chance that if the wrap is removed the paint may well come with it like any covering it's all about the base and that's not a song !!!! Too old for all that sh## .

Other than the actual 'paint' used it looks just like respray to me (clearly a nice new car to start with doesn't need much in the way of body work prep, other than stripping parts of and masking areas up).

A respray needs sanding work, glass removal, multiple coats of paint etc etc. They simply masked the areas that weren't to be painted, panel wiped, then sprayed. I'd say 1/3rd of the labour/price of proper paint work at a guess.
