Not sure what the proper name for this thing is but it's the little A button adjacent to the electronic parking brake button. It keeps the brakes held on so you don't have to hold your foot on the brake pedal at lights etc.
Anyway, can anyone with a MY14 (perhaps 13 too) rs6 please confirm whether or not this feature remembers its last setting when starting up the car? The handbook says that the last setting should be restored each time you start up the car, except mine always defaults to off and I'm pretty damn sure this is a fault rather than a handbook misprint as it certainly remembers the setting on a standard A6 I recently drove.

I don't have the 6 but in my RS4 it is stated in the manual that it needs to re activated each time the engine is started
on the other hand my wife SQ5 has this feature and remembers the last setting so if it says it should remember the last setting in the owners manual i would take it back to the dealers

Checked mine for you yesterday and its the same as yours, it does not remember when you switch off and on again.
I've not read the book to see what it says but I'll take your word on it. It doesn't really bother me too much but if you do find out its a fault let me know and I'll get mine in as well.
You could always get your oompa loompa's to have a look at it for you

Sorry, bad joke, I know

Hm that's interesting because it certainly remembers this setting on 2014 A6s.
Could you test one more time making sure that you 'exit the car' in the following fashion - Shift to P, Stop engine, Remove seatbelt.
The key part is removing the seatbelt only after stopping the engine otherwise hold assist is automatically turned off as a safety precaution.
Similarly when starting the engine, make sure the seatbelt is fastened first. Does it remember the setting now?

Well I've tried your suggestion and various other options and it still doesn't stay on when you switch back on

I've tried it a few times too and the Auto Hold doesn't seem to come back on.
