Drove a C7!

Post by Trups » Fri Sep 06, 2013 6:23 pm

My mate is good pals with the local stealer and managed to get a extended test drive, he gave me advanced notice he was getting it, i completly forgot untill i saw it and then saw him, he spun it around and followed me home.

i got in the seat and instanly launched it away from the house and i was like WOW. having a C6 it is a good comparison for me to how chuffed i was at the cars performance. This is a completly differant car to the C6, it pulls away from standing start better than the C6 but this could be down to the weight saving and gearbox. after getting into licience loosing speeds the C6 is far better on pull top end as you feel the C7 dies out slightly.

The sound: i have a custom exhaust on mine and i can say that this car on full chat with non sports exhaust option is louder than mine. its fantastic the way it pops from the back and you can hear that inside the cabin even with twin pane glass, i loved the way the gears held in M mode at red line and would NOT change up, its a drivers car for sure with the s tron box for, i drove an M5 with DCT and thought that box was the dogs balls but this new S tron in the RS6 is something else and is better.

Brakes: This car did not have ceramics, as i have a C6 with steel breaks its still a massive let down, for those guys that have ordered one find 10k and buy them as they are needed, i had to slam them on and as you would guess they wasnt as good as you would want them to be even for everyday road use and no track but each to their own on that, im with most C6 owners on that and its a must have option for sure This car had 1.5k on the clock and the brakes where squeeking like the RS3 problem, to be fair they also felt warpped.

This is defo one car i will be considering when i am ready to buy but will hold out for one with a great spec, i drove an S6 a while ago and it was a plain jane slow coach but this is a completely differant car! Defo one to consider, on kick down the way it just pulled off left me laughing and gasping for air, there is virtully no lag, you can feel when you are on running on the cylc on demand as when you do the kick down you feel a small click and it just shoots off when all 8 fire up.

Driving in it makes you forget how much this costs speced out but when you are in it you do think it is worth every penny!

i have a few Vids, will get some posted.

I've got a go first up tomorrow am. I'll share my thoughts.

It'll take a lot to shift the cost niggles.

It's still tiptronic, not S-tronic

Indeed, whether every dealer knows that is another matter, ahem.

ZF 8-speed slush-o-matic. It's the box finding its way into a variety of kit, very good by all accounts.

Only seen vids up to now. Have noticed launch to about 120 -130mph maybe although they were in KMH. Seems to be very very fast and still quick no doubt. But seems to slow down in top end where as the C6 kept on going. ? Dop you think this would be sorted with software in the future a map. To give it that extra bit in top end if it does then it is the perfect car. Will be test driving 1 very soon and sharing my thoughts.

To be fair the car did only have low miles so don't think it was worn in. was slightly windy so all this I have to take into account but the bit of road I was on I would of easily got 165 in mine. which is 20 more than the C7 got, it defo show's how having the extra 2 cylc helps sooo much.

Golf,

its got sec cats out, full sys and filters.

after I had the exhaust don't it was RR'd at 618hp and then going on the figures filters get I should be at 640hp.

I have been in classba's car and that was fast actually that was rapid, but its a completely different type of power delivery, this is there in your face and redlines every gear, they C6 is was just mental and a brutal delivery.

You really need to get in it to see what I mean, they sound of the engine has come back so you know its there even pulling away slow.

Drove a C7!

Post by doodlebug » Sat Sep 07, 2013 11:19 am

Well I am pleasantly surprised, the sales guy was very good, let me get on with it. Whilst I would have, and still would like a longer drive on my own, I had a good hour of hoon time.

The power delivery is smoother than the C6 but similarly brutal. In fact you'd do well to notice you were doing warp speed. In manual is an absolute hoot, though I forgot I had to change up (C6 changes up at the red line) and we both almost ended up through the windscreen! The gearbox is snappy, a lot more so than the C6, but not as much as an S-Tronic box.

For me the handling is way way better than the C6 and it inspires more confidence accordingly. It's not as chuck able as the RS4, and doesn't provide quite the same feedback, but then it's a bigger car.

The cabin is high quality, the seats are good, the dash and instrumentation is excellent. I'm still not sure about the quilted seats, especially with the contrast stitching, however you forget about that when you're on the loud pedal.

I gave it plenty around windy roads that I know, I was confident after a relatively short period in the seat.

Do I want one? Not sure. The price is a problem, even with the contribution available I'd still want some further movement. I will sample some other fruits, but I suspect I'll keep the four and add something else.

No you don't. You were right...it's S-tronic.

It's a zf 8 and is a tq converter automatic but Audi are calling it S-tronic (same with the S8). Seems to be the new Audi word for all automatic transmissions, be they DSG dual clutch style or the traditional tq converter auto.
