That's the point, it's not about overall mass, it's about unsprung mass. I've driven both, I know which I prefer.

If unsprung mass is your priority then start with 20 inch wheels. Surprisingly big saving and free. Assuming you like the way they look :)

I think they've both equally had there problems but on most reviews long term test. Heard all sorts of weird things about the steels warping juddering under braking, pretty much the opposite the few days I had a demo with steels was great. And my car with the ceramics got too admit not great first couple hundred miles but once bedded in they are fantastic.

Pah.. Who cares about handling :) Ceramics look fantastic and zero brake dust is easily worth 10K - (This is a joke btw)

I had them specced on v1 of the PE or err "Plus". Both dealers suggested I would probably lose most of the cost on resale. I guess it is true for most extras but at £8,900 extra over the Dynamic pack it is a bit extreme!

M1R XE wrote:I know it's a big car and lose value like anything. But no chance 55k after 6 months pay that for 3 year old car with a good few miles seen as most RS6 tend to be low mileage. I wouldn't even say 65k they hold value much better than M5's and E63's that's all I can say specced with ceramics will hold up that bit better, the dealers would still be selling that for 80-95k after 6 months and a few miles not many :bigblink:
Not when compared like to like they're not. As said many times, the sale price of all these cars vs. residuals are all pretty much the same. For 2yrs RS6's were selling at close to list (let's say £75k for a standard car) whereas the M5 & E63 were being discounted by around £12k alongside some amazing lease/PCP deals, this meant the cars were around £15k apart (the list price of an M5 has always been lower than the RS6) OTR. This naturally filtered through to residuals as you'd expect. Now the RS6 is available with £13k discount, the same outcome will occur which will hurt the latter non discounted RS6's.

I've been looking at resale figures a lot myself recently. The first thing I tend to do is drop the reg of whatever car I'm selling into webuyanycar because I've tended to find they offer a small amount under trade. I've certainly confirmed this for the trade ins on my last three cars, plus my current cars. It's also useful to provide an indication of what margin is in the car I've been buying. Appying this to a year old RS6 is quite disturbing and is a lot worse than the figures I obtained for mine when I did the same thing 18 months ago. There seems to be a hell of a hit in the first year or so from purchase price to trade in at least.

I'd bet a penny to a pound of <beep> that this is almost exclusively due to the now signifiant drop in the new car price that's been around for the last 6-9mths. New cars were selling for much closer to list before that so will have kept used prices keen. As i've said above, i'd hazard a guess it's a simple choice for many a buyer when choosing between a 12 month old car at £60-65k & a brand spanker for £66k. This will no doubt impact the current used market & for the next 12 months.

Fair play to Audi for keeping the sell price high for so long, but this was always going to change at some point in the lifecycle & now with the PE hitting the streets & these too having discounts, i'd imagine the current higher priced used cars will drop in price very quickly.

Ouch. I bet that itch was well & truly scratched. As is the norm on other forums, all crash photos require some kind of 'wtf happened' editorial?

A sort of on topic question !

My RS6 is approaching is approaching 5 months old now.

I have been offered an identically spec'd PE for 10k exchange.

I am just wondering whether its worth the exchange ?

I don't care about the 45ps really and I prefer the 21" twin spokes to the new wheels, i like the alcantara, not mad about the blue but don't really care that much.

I guess I would have to spec the new rims and the alcantara and the titanium (otherwise why bother !).

I suppose the question for me is - In 18/24 months will a 6 month older RS6 be worth more than 10K less than a 6 month newer PE ?

How much really is the cost of exchange ?

Thanks for your advice !

I'd say that's a good deal as isn't that the price difference new so you're getting new for old plus the uplift for £10k (if i'm reading your question correctly).

I doubt you'll make up that difference in 2yrs, but the PE will no doubt command some premium over a regular RS6 so sounds like a bite their hand off deal to me.

It sounds like he is saying your current car has depreciated by 10k in 7-8months (which is how old your current car will be when you get the new one). And then the new car has a base price of 7k more than your current one so you have effectively lost only 3k in 7-8 months.
You have to also factor into this that some of your options on your old car might be standard on the PE like the 21" wheels so add that to the deprecation (making it depreciate 5k) but at the end of the days to lose only 10K on a new RS6 in 8 months is pretty good going.

That's a very good deal I think!

Although I am not surprised their are stonking deals around...I was near Milton Keynes yesterday and had a coupel of hours to kill so opped in to the Audi dealership (which is friggin massive). They had SIX new RS6's in stock...one in the showroom and five outside. They had some kind of event weekend on but even so that's mental for one dealer to have that many in stock.

It seems like a pretty stunning deal to me. Do they want your car now and supply the PE some time in the future or is it available now? The PE for most people will be the one to get 2nd hand 2 years down the road so I would have thought it will have slightly lower depreciation.
