Had this happen to me three times today and was very concerned, so looked on here and found this thread.

The first time this happens today was from a cold start and I traveled 75 meters before applying the brakes and the pedal dropped and brought the car to a complete halt (only doing 5-10mph). I then continued on my journey and 2 miles later applied the brakes at 40 mph and the pedal dropped and sharply applied the brakes. At this point I'm thinking of not driving the car, but we are 120 miles from home and I had two kids needing their beds so I continued home at a slow pace. The third and final time this happened was approaching a roundabout on the A47 back to London when the pedal dropped on approach to the round about and emergency braked for a brief moment nearly resulting in the car behind rear ending me. To say he wasn't happy was an understatement.

This all happened in wet conditions as described in the posts above, but in my opinion this is a very dangerous (safety) feature which could result in an accident as it comes out of the blue. Is there any further update on this or has audi closed the case?

Thanks in advance

Maybe using cruise control solves issues? I always drive with cruise control on when raining a lot

Baz... sorry to hear you've had a bad experience like me and, I agree, its terrifying. Audi UK were uninterested in taking it any further, after approaching the technical guys in Germany who scratched their heads and insultingly told me it was just a characteristic of the car. I was so appalled by their lack of interest to such a dangerous situation I changed brands after almost 20 years.

Tadass910 is correct in as far as the problem never occurred using adaptive cruise (if you have that feature). I was also able to trick the car into believing it was not raining by manually activating the windscreen wipers each time but that was an obvious ball ache.

Anyhow, if you report this to your local dealer they will have access to my technical query on their database as it should be logged on their system but if you have any other questions then please just ask.

I had this happen to me on the way up to Norfolk on Friday - also once before in slow moving traffic in the wet. Nearly made my wife hit her head on the dashboard. Didn't realise it was a known fault but agree it's not very safe.

Thanks for the replies. I'm going to try my luck with escalating the issue but because its part of the design and not many people reporting or complaining about the issue. I don't think anything will happen... Its a bit like the original rs6 drc issue... Audi knows all about it... but will do sod all for owners to rectify it (unless your in the states). It will probably take a major fatality with a subsequent investigation before audi will react.. and only then to protect damage to the brand. If I have anything to report back I'll post on here guys
