I think the ZF8 is pretty fantastic, never found it slow. My other cars include PDK boxes and a fancy Hewland sequential in my race car, so it's not like i'm just being a fanboi. Think it suits the RS6 perfectly in fact.
Interesting how different people view things. I have a ZF8 in my RRS and personally I think it's lightyears behind the S-Tronic/DSG that was in my RS4. I drove a Pork with PDK recently and that was nothing short of outstanding, no delay in any variation of driving when you stamp on the loud pedal.
It will be tuned differently for a RRS vs. F-TYPE R

I agree re the ZF8 being a great box. There may be some edge cases where other boxes respond better but in general the ZF does everything very well. Smooth crawling in traffic right up to nutters-at-dawn blasts.

GTR box is a bag of bolts
MB MCT box is solid but slow and rough at low speed
Most MB boxes seem to have been programmed as slow but we will see how the new generation comes on

I also think some of the credit does need to go to Audi for programming it up so well with the V8 4.0L as they work so well as a unit.
