You say penny pinching I say I am being shrewd, sensible and informed decision making

Is it penny pinching to get £14k off the RS or shrewd?

How about buying secondhand parts for my GTR and fitting them myself? I saved a fortune ?
Remap for my GTR to put our around 800bhp with hybrid turbos cost £300
Researched ages before buying my turbos got a cracking deal or just follow everyone else and spend a fortune?

Everyone is different. I like going my own way and enjoy the challenge of getting there a slightly more convoluted way but an interesting and fun way. I am not forcing anyone to follow my lead.
Paul, i'd not criticise anyone for being shrewd & saving money & i'd in every area of purchasing avoid paying over the odds, however sticking a cheap generic remap on an £80k car is far from being shrewd. If you know someone who'll do you a custom Stage 2 tune on your C7 RS6 for £300 then i'd imagine many will want to know about it, however in this arena i'm afraid in the norm cost = quality, assurance, reputation & warranty so i'd be spending my money with the company that offers all of this, pretty much regardless of cost. Banging some low quality generic code onto a C7 RS6 is not a very smart move, however although you'll not have got a great product i doubt it would cause any lasting damage to the car.

As regards the remap on your GT-R, had it not already been mapped during earlier upgrades & as such you just received a revised file for the hybrid turbos so you're overall mapping costs would have been higher? Do you use Cobb or Ecutek?

As above, saving money is of course a good thing, but i'd be very careful where you apply that logic & firing a generic £300 map on a car as complex as the C7 RS6 would in my opinion not be a wise move given the cars complexities & variances. The GT-T in comparison (ECU wise) is nowhere near as complex & doesn't have the same variances.

Yes, 748bhp & 700lbsft. My car was used by DMS to develop their Stage 2 tune.

Nowhere did I say I was going to stick a £300 generic map on my RS.

There is nothing fancy about the RS6 ecu. It is used in many cars.

You said 'it's not £600 it's £300, software only' so I assumed you meant the tune you were considering for your RS.

As for the ECU, it may well be used in other cars, but is considerably more complex than the same part in the GT-R & overall the C7 RS6 is a fairly complex vehicle electronics wise so a generic map in an R35 would be far less of a concern than it would be in an RS6. That said, each to their own.

Understood & for the GT-R that sounds about right.

Depending on if you're using CoBB or not, you'd then have paid about £1k for the Stage 1 tune & at £300 per uplift a Stage 5 would have cost around £1500 in software alone plus £6-700 for the CoBB hardware. I'm not sure if their's a hardware cost going the EcuTek route though?

What tune are you considering for your RS6?

The same guy who has tuned my cars (apart form the GTR) for years. Stage one shortly. Pain though as the ecu needs opened. I think there is a fix for that now but I have kind of lost touch with the newer stuff.

Excellent. I know a couple of tuners have been working on how to tune via the OBD port. My M5 could only be done on the bench but DMS have now i believe cracked how to do this via the OBD port. Same no doubt applies to other makes.

What outputs are you expecting from the Stage 1?
