Drive it everywhere in dynamic and you become on first name terms with the petrol pump attendant at Tescos
And you have to live with the chavvy exhaust noise. That wore thin quickly.
My valves were disconnected so I could get the nice V8 rumble all the time without having to go into Sport mode and have the pops and bangs.
My car spent 99% of the time in dynamic mode. I would use the gear lever to swap between D mode (everything dynamic except throttle response, gear changes and no pops) and S mode (sharper throttle response, higher gear change point and pops and bangs). Essentially I would drive most of the time in Dynamic but D then as I approached a junction or wanted to overtake I would slip it into S then when back at cruising speed I'd go back into D. Or stay in S if I'm really pushing on. This worked out perfect for me and really miss this in the new car (either I'm in Dynamic which is a little 'soft' in term of gear changes, or it's race mode which is perfect for driving except all driver aids are turned off).

Morning chaps....

So my mpg measurement was with the car in the Auto setting, the whole journey and yes with stop\start switched off - Q - Is there anyway to permanently switch this off? OR do you just have to switch it off for each journey???. I am still experimenting, but so far I like the Auto setting. I found myself just tapping the lever backwards to put it into 'Sport' mode when overtaking or approaching a roundabout... I Didn't use the paddle shifts, but never really used them on my C5, I don't really see the point with 8 speed?!

Its just so easy to forget you have all that power at your disposal, sat there in royal comfort, quietly tootling along and then you put it in 'S' mode and let the horses loose - flippin' brilliant!!

Lig...
If you have VCDS you can change the setting to be permanently off or, as i did, make it remember the last setting and also invert the LED on the button so the LED is off when start stop is off i.e. all the time, and will only light up if someone decided to turn it on i.e. never. You could probably do this with one of the cheaper OBD dongles / mobile phone apps too.

I didn't like Auto mode as I didn't like the unpredictability of how hard the suspension would be when turning in. I preferred to have the suspension in Dynamic so I knew exactly how it would behave turning into a fast bend.

Very nice MikeFish! Any particular reason for the change, or did you just fancy it and not need all the space anymore?

How does it compare? (sorry if I have missed you telling all in another thread, prior to my return to the fold)......

Is the quality there, interior, feel etc??

Cheers,
Lig.

If you are on air springs then select Auto, not Comfort. Apparently, the Comfort mode prevents the car reducing the ride height at high speeds, which it will do in Auto mode in order to improve economy.

I have once hit 31.5mpg - recently on a run up the M1; it was as a result of being forced to drive at 55 through all those interminable roadworks. Normally a really sedate drive will return 26. Long term average (over 45,000 miles) is 22mpg. I cannot conceive how the car can be made to beat about 32mpg unless it is fitted with hard rubber that is overinflated. ACC is bad for economy, though, and I always use that, so not using that might help push the economy up.

I wanted something a little less attractive to armed robbers. My wife now has a larger car so I could drop back to a smaller car and my hearts always been with saloon cars (had a B7 RS4 saloon in black and got fed up of waiting for Audi to make another RS saloon so ended up with a breadvan).
Very different cars, the Alfa is much more agile, better than the RS4 when thrown around, but the suspension is much firmer.
It lacks low down grunt compared to the 6 (my 6 dyno'd at 888NM when on overboost; 774 under normal conditions and the Alfa on paper is only 600NM so quite a big gap). But once you get the revs up it is very quick.
The interior feels a bit cheap when you first start looking at it but now it is not something that I think about when in the car. The tech is not as good as the 6 either (sat nav doesn't have google search and can't send the destination from my phone to the car). It also doesn't like it if you use a space in the postcode as you would normally. Really enjoying it at the moment but only when the weather is right.

I hope so. It comes with 5 years warranty and breakdown recovery (and 3 years servicing) but I can imagine how frustrating it can be going back and forth to a dealer with constant issues.

Hi MikeFish,

That sounds like a good alternative for you, and like you say as you don't need the space and like saloons, its probably the 'best' out there, and a bit different!

I don't like the bit about the 'armed robbers' and I hope you haven't had any personal experience of this!! This is a minor concern, I remember seeing a video of some chap being dragged out his house for his car, but we do have a family plan in place in case they come a knocking - flame throwers and shotgun to hand....!!

Have a good weekend!

You chose well. No armed robber wants to drop down into Limp mode with three jam sandwiches on their tail. In the world of smash and grab, reliability trumps character. :bigblink:

And a car that has over 500bhp through the rear wheels with tyres that only work in an Italian summer combine with a sport mode that turns all driver aids and traction control off chances are they'd be in a ditch before they got to the end of the road. Tyres that are slippery when cold tyres doth not make a good car to steal or as a getaway car.
