Tell me I'm not mad...
Re: Tell me I'm not mad...
You can be in anything vaguely comfortable on the motorway as DK says. Not as though you can do warp speed in the UK. It's very good at flattening A roads. Yes, never going to be the most dynamic on the B roads. I'd prefer Macan on motorway miles as it's more comfortable and has a more compliant ride.
Re: Tell me I'm not mad...
This is why I started this thread. Though I really want an RS6 and have done for 3 years, there are more sensible, or logical, cars for my needs. So many good cars for doing the Mway commute. Decisions, decisions...doodlebug wrote:You can be in anything vaguely comfortable on the motorway as DK says. Not as though you can do warp speed in the UK. It's very good at flattening A roads. Re: Tell me I'm not mad...
An A6 Allroad V6 TDI with the BiTurbo engine (320bhp?) is also pretty quick. I had a go in one prior to the RS6 and it was good.
Also the new A4 Allroad would be worth a tickle. 280bhp V6 TDi as well. It does not hurt to try one.

Re: Tell me I'm not mad...
Are we Petrolheads ever satisfied with a car? No matter what I have there's always something catching my eye 6-months later. I was hoping the RS6 would stop that as it does everythingHYFR wrote:

The rs4 kept me satisfied for 6 years. The rs6 is doing the same so far.
Re: Tell me I'm not mad...
I've done 19k miles in 14 months in my RS6. I'm not in the position of just being able to splash the cash on the car so had to work the maths. In the end, for me, whichever way I looked at it, buying and running and RS6 is not a financially sensible choice (nor should it be, you could argue). It pays off in so many other ways and it was worth 'paying' for those.

The RS6 will happily average 25mpg on the motorways driving at 80mph.
75l (16.5g) with the 0 coming up after 70 litres used (15.5g) will see the typical tank range around the 375-400 mark. I've managed 450 miles from the tank (29mpg) on a long boring journey up the M6 with an average speed of around 65mph for the trip (Traffic and average speed cameras)
If you have the itch do it, there is actually no better car to do it in, you have speed, comfort and practicality. No point in getting the 2nd car, factor in the tax/insurance/servicing and depreciation of the 2nd car and any savings you may make in fuel from the 2nd economical car will be more than offset by the 2nd car costs.
Tyres and brakes should be okay for 20k+ on the RS6 for motorway cruising, it's not going to be under constant braking or harsh acceleration, majority of the miles will be under off boost cruise control.

Re: Tell me I'm not mad...
Thanks Leo-RS... that has made my mind up. I do have the itch and, for now, its the only car that seems capable of scratching it. Now to decide when's best to buy and whether that's brand new, or 1-yr old used. I suppose heart says brand new to my spec and mind says used as you're going to put 22k miles per year on her so let someone else take the initial £££ hit. I'm not too fussy on spec, as long as its Sepang with a sports exhaust and 21" black alloys and gloss black pack... I suppose for this amount of miles on Mway I won't notice the difference between 'standard' and Performance editions?Leo-RS wrote:The RS6 will happily average 25mpg on the motorways driving at 80mph.

Thanks for all the opinions

Re: Tell me I'm not mad...
Maybe the wrong forum.....but my experience...
LOVE the rs6 c7 but couldn't justify it's new price (normal guy here).
I settled with a S6 C7, secondhand and actually converted it to LIGHTWEIGHT VAN (for low taxes = 127€ a year/no BIV what is a belgium term for first time use/owner taxes).
Yes, you trade in on looks...but got a good sleeper and i guess sleep better at night (burglars will settle for just an S6?).
Yes, no full 'RS' performance, but with a decent tune it is tailing or even passing a stock RS6.
For all your money gains on a new RS6, get yourself a full option loaded S6.
Still some money left for exhaust and other adjustments.
Just my .50 cents
(Daily enjoying my tuned S6 wth the options i wanted...)

But one day you will pull up at the traffic lights next to a RS....and think.."i wish I'd got one of them"
