Waiting on an RS6 Performance
Do you take slippers and cocoa too? You need a jaaaaaaaag.
Re: Waiting on an RS6 Performance
Of course, but I do find slippers awkward to drive in

Re: Waiting on an RS6 Performance

Re: Waiting on an RS6 Performance
My 'star' button is heated wheel on/off, even has a different symbol on it, but pressing 'CAR' behind the MMI wheel take you straight to drive select so not much hassle swapping between comfort and individual. PIcking up the car just as winter was showing up confirmed that the heated steering wheel is maybe the best option I ticked.mat776 wrote:I think you loose the new drive select button on the heated steering wheel.
It's really frustrating to have to go through the mmi to change driving modes, to the extent I don't really bother much.
It's not difficult to use the mmi it's just annoying to have to, and then to set it back to what you had before. It's just a distraction you don't need.
I hope the new button sorts this out.
On non PE - the "star" button which it replaces can be set to a few different things. I forget which at the moment, but it defaults to voice guidance on/off which is useful unless you have your voice cues set to "short" in which case it sets them back to "long" when you turn voice guidance back on again.
Does anyone test thus stuff ? Drives me mad and the button is useless to me - voice guidance is now always off.
Actually for you vcds experts out there - Can that be remedied with vcds ?

Re: Waiting on an RS6 Performance
Yes exactly - but still a lot more cumbersome than pressing one button and cycling through the drive modes.
It's not just getting there through the CAR button that's slower, it's getting the MMI back to what you want afterwards.
At the minimum it's:
CAR button - MMI wheel turn(s) - MMI wheel click - another button.
Instead of:
Scroll wheel - click
And generally when I want to change from individual to dynamic for example, I want to do it quickly, and not mess around.
All I am saying is that while it works, it's not efficient, and I am certainly looking forward to the drive select button.

Re: Waiting on an RS6 Performance
With the MMI, don't you have to select a different mode first then highlight dynamic again and press Ok again? In other words when I press the car button the drive select options come up and it is already on dynamic, i think pressing select does nothing, you have to select individual then go back to dynamic and select again. Then select media or nav afterwards. All of this involves looking at the screen so harder to do on the move.
With the button on the steering wheel I don't have to take my eyes off the road just press the button 5 times without looking.
But, the reason I didn't get it was because the round wheel just doesn't belong in an RS for me. When looking for a new car I kept looking at the BMW and other interiors and thinking how odd they looked with their round steering wheels. Funny, but I never had a problem with round wheels until I bought an RS.

Re: Waiting on an RS6 Performance
Mike, I was thinking about what you have said, above, do you mean that if you set drive mode to dynamic and then stop, the next time you get in, you have to set back to dynamic again ?MikeFish wrote:.....And yes the new button makes it so mucj easier to change modes now, but it is really annoying that we have to do it everytime we get in the car still.
If so what does it default to when you start up again?
Today I put mine in dynamic (fl rs6 my2016), forgot about it. When I got back in the car, about 2 hours later, it was still in dynamic.
The only thing also worth mentioning is that I did it through car button and didn't change the MMI screen to anything else after setting it (which is why I noticed it as I started up and thought of your post)
Re: Waiting on an RS6 Performance
When you get back in the car it still says it in dynamic but it's not; your exhaust valves are closed and the gearbox is in D. You can select S by pulling the gear lever back and the valves will open but as soon as you go back into drive the valves close again. You can try this when parked and you can hear the difference. I'm pretty sure it doesn't pop and bang as much (or at all) until you cycle round).
But if you cycle through the modes back to Dynamic the valves open and the gearbox goes into S. Even if you go back into drive the valves stay open (I think, mine are permanently disconnected now).
The RS3 is the same and I'm pretty sure the B8 RS4 does this too. If it didn't do this then no one would really care about the drive select button as you rarely use it, but I am forced to press it 5 times every time it start the car otherwise I don't get all the noise.

Thanks - I get it.
(Also got the start/stop system failure today !)

Re: Waiting on an RS6 Performance
Not sure about this though, mine's in individual most of the time, suspension in comfort, then dynamic occasionally. Don't you find dynamic suspension a little to hard generally ?MikeFish wrote:..... Re: Waiting on an RS6 Performance
Did a bit of testing on this today. Looks the car is still set to dynamic on the mmi but get the same thing. Exhaust not open, D mode etc... Until the car warms up then it pops back into life.MikeFish wrote:When you get back in the car it still says it in dynamic but it's not; your exhaust valves are closed and the gearbox is in D. In my little rat brain, it's keeping everything closed to warm up faster. Could ofc be a software glitch too but if that's the case then it's been the same for since immediately pre FL non PE versions.
It's OK for me as I'm always waiting until the car is warmed up before I'm interested in driving in a way to get the pops.
Re: Waiting on an RS6 Performance
In dynamic it is harder than my RS4. But in comfort it is too wishy washy, so dynamic wins.mat776 wrote:Not sure about this though, mine's in individual most of the time, suspension in comfort, then dynamic occasionally. Re: Waiting on an RS6 Performance
It can't be a glitch as all the new RSs do it and I don't believe Audi would have not noticed and corrected it by now if that is not how they intended it to work.zzz wrote:Did a bit of testing on this today. You might be right about warming up though. But it doesn't automatically go back into S mode does it? I've left it without cycling a few times and never noticed a change, certainly not with the gearbox for sure.
Re: Waiting on an RS6 Performance
Someone mentioned ot me that the regulations also cause this. The car needs to be in default mode from cold for the emmissions and MPG certification. So it defaults to quiet/cheap/bland until you choose to make it change through a manual input which takes it out of default.
