Perhaps with Merc - who went backwards in the early 2000s - but most manufacturers are producing bigger, heavier, stronger and more rigid cars today. C7 300kg heavier than 90s C4. My daughter's GTI is nearly 500kg heavier than my first one, and light years ahead in build quality.
