This obviously implies all engine ancilleries (inc turbos, water pump you name it), the gearbox and clutch, the prop/drive shafts, diffs, etc etc.

You could infer in fact, anything that rotates or moves - driven by the engine.
The answer is too ambiguous.

You could argue that the engine runs the alternator which in turn charges the battery which in turn is able to supply power to the dash, radio, lights, blowers, windscreen wipers etc etc.

I think it's best to get the car serviced at an indy and if any issues arise that need urgent rectification like a replacement engine, you can get a replacement ECU. (If of course you claim on warranty through Audi)

Or you could just buy a 2nd ECU from Audi to start with and if there are any issues, swap it out for the standard one :bigblink:

Very very unlikely anything is going to go wrong to be fair, there's an RS6 with 1000hp and an RS7 with 1100hp running perfectly fine on the standard engines. A tune and an exhaust upto 750 should be well within tolerances.

If you get your car serviced at an Indy and present Audi with a warranty claim for a new engine, your Indy and your servicing record are going to come in for a mind-bogglingly detailed examination; it would need to be a squeaky clean Indy with a fantastic Audit trail on parts brands, staff training, etc. As the owner of the shagged car, you are going to need enormous cahonas to keep calm and cool during the long wait whilst Audi decide whether it is you or they who are going to cough up £15,000.

Aren't vehicle mileages tracked by both the ECU and also the dash Control Module (and, I think, other modules? I think MB record mileage in 3 separate CMs)? I think an ECU that has been holidaying out of the car for most of its life is going to show up pretty clearly.

Not really, that would contrive some very clear BER laws and Audi would get into trouble.
No matter where you go, there you are.

Just to pickup on a couple of points in this never ending thread,

Speaking from experience, remaps are detectable even if the ECU is put back to standard. Dealers are able to download ECU data from the car and send it directly to the factory for it to be analysed, they are able to determine at what mileage(s) the ECU software was changed. In this instance, Audi advised that the engine and gearbox warranty was void, but explicitly stated the warranty on other components was unaffected.

A BMW M235i owner blew his engine on a track day at Cadwell, he had it recovered to a BMW dealer who initially stated that the engine would not be covered under warranty as the car had been used on track and the warranty excludes motorsport (the car was not modified). After taking things further with BMW UK and putting across a solid argument that open pit lane track days are not motorsport as they are not competitive nor timed events and also that BMW themselves through their marketing channels seem to encourage track day driving, common sense eventually prevailed and the claim was honoured. There was a big thread on Pistonheads related to this.

Good point about the ECU mileage discrepancies.

That's that plan out the window

Guess you just have to take the risks if you want to go down the tuning path.

Is this thread still going!!!

Can't believe all the guess work and "expert knowledge" that's been said?

Any one who maps the car and has a engine failure is playing with fire regarding warranty repairs from Audi....simple as that!!

You may get Audi to pay....you may not?....simples.

Whether you'd risk it during warranty period is down to personal choice....you win some you lose some.

Now...will someone wreck there C7 engine and try and claim form Audi....?....this thread is getting boring now.
