Re: Misfire
Just had an update from the garage and they have traced the issue to the PCV valve on the crank case as being defective. Not quite a straight forward job by the sounds of things as the manifold needs to be taken off to access it. Hopefully changing that out sorts the problem.

Re: Misfire
good result. Get them to do the Oil strainer at the same time. It is 5 min job if they are doing the PCV. 8 hour job on its own

Re: Misfire
Already told them to do the turbo oil strainer while they have it stripped down. Getting them to do an oil change while it’s there too, even though it was only last done 2.5k ago.

Re: Misfire
Hmm first time i read the PCV is causing misfires without the audio signs of a failed PCV. Haven't really looked into it, but wasn't even aware they could detect a failed PCV without the wishling sound and oil cap test...but you learn something every day
. Glad they actually found something as most misfire issue are often a mistary case...

Re: Misfire
On closer inspection you can hear the whistle sound from the valve. We shall see once the new valve is fitted if it’s cured.dasquade wrote: ↑Wed Sep 18, 2019 8:58 pmHmm first time i read the PCV is causing misfires without the audio signs of a failed PCV. Eeck..was looking to pick up similar vehicle, i.e. year and mileage. Will definitely look at warranty.
Does your warranty cover the work? Did you take out Audi Extended or independent?

Re: Misfire
I took out a premium warranty with Autoguard. Was £1500 for 2 years cover including breakdown assist, key protection and a load of other features. I should hear from them today regarding the repairs. Don’t see it being a problem. My mate has made 3 claims with them on his Nissan GT-R and they have paid out each time. I’ll let you know when I hear from them.

Re: Misfire
Just an update, warranty claim has been successful and they are footing the full bill for repair. Getting the turbo oil strainer done and oil change at the same time for piece of mind.

Re: Misfire
So the garage has called me there as they have just started work on the car while waiting for the warranty company to approve the claim fully and it appears that I have exactly the same issue as you Paulm. One turbo shaft broken and the other it’s pretty close to failure going by the amount of play in the shaft. Absolutely shocking for a car that’s just 4 years old with 25k on the clock. Hopefully hear back from the warranty company in the next few days but half tempted just to reject the car as I only had it a matter of weeks “working”.Paulm wrote: ↑Mon Sep 16, 2019 1:48 pmJoegib1983 wrote: ↑Mon Sep 16, 2019 9:58 amIt’s just turned 4 years old now. The misfire is not that bad and is not throwing up the engine management light. Hoping it’s just something like a dodgy plug or coil. I’ll hopefully have an idea mid afternoon if it shows anything on the diagnostics.
My missfire, rough idle and lack of power turned out to be one failed turbo (shaft broken) and the 2nd close behind (bearings goosed). No engine light either![]()

Re: Misfire
Hi Joe,
Yeah that is shocking.... But on the + side providing it all gets done under warranty, you know it has all been done and will have the updated oil strainer, so for that reason I would keep it!!
Only if the warranty company kicks up some kind of fuss I would then go back to the dealer....
Hope it all works out and keep us posted...

Re: Misfire
phf sad to hear an other case of oil feed issues especially in combination with pcv.
Personally i would try to convince them (as they know) the oil screen is the cause the turbo's prematurly failed out.
Where are you from?

Re: Misfire
From Scotland mate. I had instructed the garage to do the turbo oil strainer while they were carrying out the PCV valve change out as it killed 2 birds with one stone with regards to labour costs.

Re: Misfire
Yeah I have to let the garage deal with the warranty company. I had the strainer ordered for it to be done when it was getting the PCV valve changed. If the warranty company pay out then all is good, if they don’t I’ll be looking for another RS6 and rejecting the car. Already been in touch with the dealer to let them know that the car has issues. Always good to have an amicable email trail. I’m sure the warranty company will pay out though as they carried out an inspection of the car and gave me a claim limit of 52k per claim. Saying “it was one of the best examples they had seen”Lig wrote: ↑Thu Oct 03, 2019 3:08 pmHi Joe,
