How much did the whole thing cost if you don't mind me asking? Also, was it the cat back setup? Who did the work?

Re: New Exhaust System
Akra only do a cat back although there is a company associated with them that do downpipes but strictly speaking it is not an Akra.
Re: New Exhaust System
Hi areospace100,
As Mike as mentioned the Akrapovic is a cat back system I think the main difference between this and other brands is it's made of Titanium.
I managed to get mine for just over £3k and was less than a year old.

Installed Miltek none resonated exhaust and forget all other systems, Miltek sounds way more brutal even than amg, Miltek and akrapovic you even cant compare in sound cos Miltek beats Akrapovic in 100%

Re: New Exhaust System
So what is the general consensus for someone who wants a full system (rather than cat back) but would like to keep the car civilized whilst in comfort mode but obnoxiously loud whilst in dynamic?
I moved from an RS5 to the RS7 Performance (with the optional sports exhaust) and whilst i appreciate i've gone from NA to Turbo the RS5 sounded way better and way throatier.
I really don't want an awful drone whilst doing the motorway miles but at the same time, when the time is right, i want it to sound like it goes.
My car has the double glazed windows which does seem to dampen the noise level in the cabin however.

Re: New Exhaust System
You want a decat? That'll mean friendly MOT guy when the time comes and a remap. If you mean a sports cat then I don't see the point, very expensive for little powerformance gains. Better off with a cat back and remap. But if you still want a turbo back system I'd go for some Fourie Fabrications decat downpipes mated to a standard exhaust.tommyteacup wrote: ↑Tue Aug 21, 2018 5:39 pmSo what is the general consensus for someone who wants a full system (rather than cat back) but would like to keep the car civilized whilst in comfort mode but obnoxiously loud whilst in dynamic?

Re: New Exhaust System
Thanks for the reply.
Yeah I intend moving to a stage 2 tune which as i understand it means changing the downpipes and removing the cats. I assume there could be systems with race cats but my intention is to gain the performance from a stage 2 tune and gain the noise from the exhaust.
I have a friendly MOT station, that is not too much of a concern although the car is only 9 months old at present and I suspect I will move it on before its over 3 years old.
A large proportion of the miles i do are civilised though, so i'm reluctant to make the comfort setting no longer comfortable.
Thanks for the advice, I have had a look at the Fourie website; the guy used to work at MRC for several years it seems. Do they do the fabricating for MRC now then I guess?
I phoned MRC the other day (as recommended in another thread), twice in fact, and they didn't pick up.....
So is this the solution you have on your car?
Is it correct to say straight through custom made downpipes, centre pipework also custom made to remove resonators and then mating up to the original back box (standard or Audi 'Sports Exhaust').
If this is indeed your solution and my understanding is correct, what is the sound like? The footer suggests you disconnected the valves?
I assume my knowledge is limited but how is that of a benefit? If you so desired could you not leave the MMI car exhaust setting in dynamic and achieve the same thing but keep the option to close the valves by selecting comfort? Could it be the 'Drive Select' option needs to be fitted on the vehicle to enable this?
Did you disconnect the valves at the same time i guess, so you will not have a comparison between stock comfort (valve closed) and modified catless valves closed?
Have you had any comparison with and decat Miltek owners?
Lastly, if you don't mind me asking, what did it cost?
I am sorry for the long post and a million questions!!

Re: New Exhaust System
No, I didn't want to lose my warranty with the decat and neither did I feel the need for more power. My only quest was for more noise but not unbearable noise (I've done that in the past). Experience has shown me the best RS V8 exhaust noise for a daily car was to just remove the front and centre resonators and disconnect the exhaust valves. This gives me a great sound, for barely any cost and I can live with it and more importantly I don't get stopped by the police all the time.
I disconnected the valves as they are not normally always open even in Dynamic mode; Mine are open regardless of drive mode and I still get the noise without having to go into Sport mode and it popping and banging all the time. My set-up is not noisy enough to want to ever quieten it down.
My recommendation would be to just change the downpipes for straight though numbers. Stuart Fourie can get a set of 4 inchers down the back of the engine. But I'd mate this to the standard exhaust. If you remove the front and centre resonators too then it might be too loud. If you try it like this and find that it is not noisy enough then get the resonators removed too. Easier to do this then find it is too noisy and try to put them back in.
I have heard pretty much all the combinations of exhausts and downpipes and side by side this combination sounded the best to me and if i wasn't worried about warranty and was getting a stage 2 map then this is the one I'd pick.
Yeah MRC are terrible at picking up the phone and responding to emails, they are generally best on social media. And yes Stuart used to work for MRC but started his own business but the 2 businesses still have a close connection and do a lot of their fabrication work.

Re: New Exhaust System
As part of your new setup you should consider the Active Valve Control Module:
http://millteksport.com/exhaust.product ... antid=1443
It makes the valves open all the time in dynamic and closed all the time (sub 5krpm) in comfort and OEM behaviour in Auto. Plus press the ESP button twice to force open or closed in any mode.
I’ve coupled that with a Milltek Road+ catback.
