In my experience pad deposit couldn't be felt when really braking hard or really gently, only with medium pressure and would come and go, sometimes I'd forget it was there. But when I had warped discs on a different car I could feel it at all speeds and braking pressures. The faster I was going the worse it got and when braking from motorway speeds it felt like the car was going to shake to pieces.
Pad deposits can sometimes be cleared by giving doing some good heavy braking. The deposits generally appear from the brakes not being used very hard. So if you've set the discs on fire doing a few laps of the Ring then quite likely they are warped rather than pad deposits, but if you've only been using them gently then pad deposits are more likely.
With this in mind, can I go and give the car some spirited driving to help reduce judder on mine? (or give the discs a bloody good clean?)
I've not done much hard hard driving, but am getting judder so can only assume it would be down to pad deposits?
I took me nearly 500 miles on a non stop drive through Europe to rid my discs of what can only be pad deposits. It started off terrible and it was making my leg and whole body shake when I used the brake pedal. Gradually it became much better throughout the day and then entirely disappeared, so far, not to return. Very odd - never had this before but the experience of truly warped discs will loosen bolts in the vehicle and not come and go.

So you're saying I need to go on a big old road trip.
Let me check with the wife....

Not sure you'll achieve much with a clean, skimming will do the trick though.
But yes, a good hard session can reduce or get rid of it altogether. I've not had an issue with my C7 discs but my B7 ones used to suffer from this and the severity would vary month to month depending on how it was being driven.

I think I have the pad deposit build up version of these symptoms as the vibrations do not occur at low speed and aren’t that great at medium speed. Higher speeds c70mph the vibration is greater.

Does anyone have the definitive guide to getting rid of the pad deposits? From what I can gather:

- Warm the brakes up
- 3x hard deceleration from 70mph to 20mph on the limit of the ABS
- Cool the brakes down.

Any good?

I have quite a history of issues with the brakes on my RS6 since new. Audi replaced pads once but after a few thousand miles squealing started again. After a year of discussions and quite a few visits to the Audi dealer the RS factory agreed to provide new replacement discs but I had to pay for the pads.

This has worked for a while but then the juddering started.... another visit to the dealer and I was informed that someone had tightened the wheel up too tight...... the car has floating discs and the wheel nuts being too tight would affect this.

2 race specialists later I have been informed that most performance cars have floating discs and the don't float laterally but float on the bell housing. In their opinion there is no issue with wheel nuts but the discs tend to cool quicker in the area that the pads are on, especially when we come to a stop with hot brakes and sit at a junction for a while. This is in their opinion the issue with my brakes.

So I have taken their advise and ordered some brakes from BG Developments, the guys showed me around their manufacturing facility and they know quite a bit about brakes and do even say that the RS6 C7 brakes are not ideal as the wavy design doesn't help either as you need the maximum area to brake against. They provide quite a few brake kits for RS products and mine have now been ordered, just waiting for them.

In my opinion there wasn't much difference in price and they can't be worse that the Audi units - Can they?

Cheers
Aaron
