Pretty sure you should always charge/recondition etc the battery from the engine bay terminals, due to the car electronics "managing" it?

Not across the battery terminals when fitted?

If you know someone with a CTEK I would recommend trying that to charge/recondition it first before replacing.

Sadly it is dead and the dash is a Christmas tree full of errors lol plus don’t know anyone who has the charger and where car is located I don’t have power. So it’s bend over backwards and take the hit from AA or the like to replace on site.

Would the battery be covered by the manufacturers warranty which is still valid until end of October.

If still under warranty, then you should have Audi Assist. Call them out.

If it was defective it should be covered under the dealer warranty otherwise under the battery manufacturer warranty.

I was told that it was out of its warranty period (3 years), therefore I picked up the bill.

Ah sorry, thought your car was inside warranty. Still it's not overly horrendous price-wise given the circumstances.
