Hmm, according to that table, my 21" wheels, supplied by Audi and which are 9.5" wide, shouldn't have 285 tyres fitted to them...

Not totally convinced by that app.
285mm is nearly 11 1/4 inches. Sounds about right to me.
?? Your app says the Audi tyre fitment is out of range...

Thanks guys... I am in no way concerned with whether the 285 factory tire will work on a 10.5 width rim in any way as I intend to change the tires regardless.

My key question here would be 10.5 wheels squared.

Second to this would anyone have any real world experience with best offset for flush fitment rather than running spacers ?

Please and thank you!

Love the concave profile of those wheels. As for Audi advice, I would bet their engineers would choose the lighter stronger 20's on smaller tyres for best ride / handling set up, no spacers and factory ride height. But if looks are your priority the cars look meaner with all that tweaked. You pays your money.....

Thanks Zeshark, we've heard your opinion and are ignoring it. In what world is 285 a stretch on a 10.5" width rim? 285 is too wide to fit on a 9.5" rim, it is perfect for a 10.5" rim. And if you actually look at such a combination on the flesh you will see it still offers rim protection.
It is not my opinion, it is the opinion of the engineers who signed off that chassis.

The two dimensions sanctionned by Audi for the RS6 Performance are:
275/35 R20, 9.5xJ20 offset 21, H5U
285/30 R21, 9.5Jx21 offset 25, H5X

If I have to choose, I'd venture to say that the boffins that work hand-in-hand with the tire manufacturers and approve the Audi sanctionned tire executions (R0x) are those who know.
You may be in that specific line of work and know better. I am not and my MS in engineering tells me that staying within manufacturer specs is never a bad idea.

Now, if you claim that 9.5" is actually too narrow for 285 tires, this takes us in different territory.
They couldn't get the tyre and alloy combo to stop the wheels buckling under normal use so I wouldn't pay too much attention to them.
Besides, the OP asked if anyone had any experience of offsets and widths, he didn't ask whether you think it's a good idea or not or if 285 are a stretch.

Yes it does and that's my point; 10.5 is not too wide for a 285 tyre, that is the right size. The better question is why do Audi put 285 tyres on a 9.5 rim (11.5" tyre on a 10.5" rim sounds like a better fit than a 11.5" tyre on a 9.5" rim). However, I'm my opinion it is neither here nor there, a 10.5 rim is only 12.5 mm wider each side of the tyre than the 9.5 rim; hardly a big difference. Which brings us back to the main point that this thread is not about whether Zeshark thinks 285 fit on a 10.5 rim or not, it's what is the right / optimum offset for the OP to buy for his expensive wheels.

I agree with you Mark on that one, the 20s can look great.

I run 10.5" x 21 with standard offset and 285/30 Michelins and have no issues as I wanted the deeper concave. It is also lowered with H&R 20MM, no spacers. Yes they stick out more and are closer to suspension etc but not enough to cause any problems or rubbing. All the ROx tyres appear do is provide noise cancellation foam and bad handling in my experience.

SirChris, the wheels look superb, glad you didn't sell them!
Mike, that picture really helps the colour of the wheels against the colour of the car. The standard 20s are a very smart wheel.
almo, those are bloomin tidy wheels too.
