Picking up RS6 Performance Saturday - Any running in tips?
Re: Picking up RS6 Performance Saturday - Any running in tips?
I went easy on the tyres for the first couple of hundred miles, but i used all the performance from new (of course, after letting it get warmed up!).

Re: Picking up RS6 Performance Saturday - Any running in tips?
Congrats on the new car you will enjoy it no doubt. When I ran in my C7 last year it was just a case of looking after the brakes and nothing silly whilst the car was cold, takes some restraint some times on a nice bit of road!. Good tips on this thread regarding tracker, getting my PE later in the month and had asked the dealer about tracker but will consider more carefully now. Just sorting out the detailer now the car is on the boat.

I'm with Rob on this one, when I collected my PE last August (I also ordered the Ascari blue without seeing it in the flesh until my car arrived, it's a lovely colour especially in sunlight where the metallic flek brings out purples and teal colours at certain angles!), the dealer just said to break the tyres and brakes in steadily for the first few hundred miles and let the engine warm up before utilising it at the higher RPM. To be honest, the torque available from around 2000rpm is pretty immense so to start with there is no real need to rev it out but the first time you do rev it out, you will be hooked!!
I'm now on 6.5k and the engine is really starting to open up, especially at the top end!
You will love it, enjoy!!
Re: Picking up RS6 Performance Saturday - Any running in tips?
A question for you guys.
High revs and or high throttle angles.
I totally agree that high revs when cold are deadly in the long term. What I question is large throttle angles at low revs as well. In the 90's I ran a tuned car and raced at weekends. My engine builder told me not to rev when cold and only use modest throttle angles as well. They used to point out that a wide open throttle at low revs was equally bad as the stress would wear items that were not yet warm evenly.
I am guessing with the modern turbo engine being able to push high load at low revs this would be equally true on the 4L V8. I know that until water and oil temps tickle 50 I don't rev or open the throttle wide. The water temp comes up quite quickly with the modern engine management but the oil can be slower to rise and needs some miles.
Anyone like to comment ?

I am more worried about labouring; when cold i always override the auto as i feel it goes into 5th way too early cruising and i feel like it labours.
For race cars i've heard so many different things, but ultimately oil takes FAR longer to warm than water and is best done with little revs as you have been advised. Whereas you can rev which will quickly rise water temperature making you think it is 'warm' when in fact the oil has some to catch up.
Meanwhile, my race team owner (also worked at Lotus) says modern oils are great. He thrashes his cars from cold without guilt. He also made the valid statement that you only tend to hang onto cars for a few years anyway...

Don't let the engine labour , and don't go gently gently on the brakes you're better off harder shorter braking than trailing the brakes into roundabouts etc.. Loving ours 10k in
Re: Picking up RS6 Performance Saturday - Any running in tips?
Cheers all! Taken the advice....Tracker being fitted by an independent.
Looking forward to 9am Saturday and a 'gentle' drive home! Not looking forward to parking the thing though as its a bit bigger than the RS4.
WIll post some pics once I have chance.......now.....do I start considering an aftermarket exhaust!

Re: Picking up RS6 Performance Saturday - Any running in tips?
I would not worry too much. Even a gentle tickle of the pedal and medium revs is enough to make a grin occur and the rear view mirror change rapidly.
Re: Picking up RS6 Performance Saturday - Any running in tips?
How loud do you want the exhaust to be? If it is loud enough so you can clearly hear it when driving then maybe all you need to do is remove the front and centre silencers. If you want a hooligan noise then you will need an aftermarket exhaust.
Re: Picking up RS6 Performance Saturday - Any running in tips?
Think Ill give it a few months and see how loud the 'burble' is. Not keen on it being too loud so will hold my horses and see how good the stock sound before rushing into it.
First priority is getting the Paint Protection film and the G-techniq done, but this isn't happening until 10th April, so have been asked by detailer to stick some XPEL tracwrap on it for the next few weeks as a temporary measure
Anyone used this stuff?

I didn't even realise you could move the selector in S mode I was happily driving for months in the D doh needless to say when its now in dynamic or Individual and S its a wild thing.
Re: Picking up RS6 Performance Saturday - Any running in tips?
Ha ha, I drop it into S at every junction / roundabout as the throttle response is too numb in D to make sure I can get away quickly if needed.superlightr wrote: ↑Thu Mar 09, 2017 8:07 pmI didn't even realise you could move the selector in S mode I was happily driving for months in the D doh needless to say when its now in dynamic or Individual and S its a wild thing.

Lol. I do the same Mike. My Mrs always catches me pulling it back and smiles cause she knows I'm about to blow.MikeFish wrote: ↑Thu Mar 09, 2017 8:45 pmHa ha, I drop it into S at every junction / roundabout as the throttle response is too numb in D to make sure I can get away quickly if needed.superlightr wrote: ↑Thu Mar 09, 2017 8:07 pmI didn't even realise you could move the selector in S mode I was happily driving for months in the D doh needless to say when its now in dynamic or Individual and S its a wild thing.

Apologies if there is a thread that covers this but any pointers would be welcome. Will pick up my RS6 performance Saturday. Pre-delivery checks and tracker being fitted at the dealer this week.
Ascari Blue (will be the first time I've seen the colour in the flesh) - Stuck with the titanium additions so will look like a stock 'Performance'
Parking Pack
Advance Key
On air - No DRC
Couple of other little bits but not the worlds highest spec as the Performance had everything on it that I would have added to a standard RS6
Any tips on a sensible running in period which allows me to at least use it?
Cars booked in for paint protection film for the full front end and then g-techniq treatment in and out first week in April.
Will post some pics once I get it home safe and sound - Once I have got over my initial excitement!
Not sure if you are serious or poking fun at yourself?
