My record was a 420-mile round trip from Devon to Heathrow and back (after dropping 80kg of passenger/luggage off at LHR) via M5-M4-M25. This equated to 31mpg getting home with about 10 litres left in the tank (assuming the tank is 75L which I believe the FL model is).
This was driving 60-70mph in clear traffic and dry weather and I was trying to set a fuel record so smooth accelerations etc. I have found that driving using cruise control (I have standard, not adaptive) yields better fuel economy than manual throttle modulation as it seems to keep the engine in 4-cylinder mode for more of the time.
Suffice to say this was one of the more boring drives I have done, but I did still manage to dish out a quick lesson to a cheeky S3 who was challenging me at one point.
Long term average since purchase is 22 mpg last time I looked. Not a car one buys for fuel economy, but when driven sensibly it is not bad given it’s size and power.
Good luck with the purchase. You will not regret it.

Re: RS6 real world range
If you can stretch to the RS6 Performance you will get better economy. It seems strange as it gives an extra 50 odd bhp but I guess the engine management is different. Had one for 3 months and found it was a better car all-round. Managed high 20s and often 30s (unheard of in a RS6).
Happy hunting and good luck.
