I have thought long and hard about these kind of motors making more sense, but my problem is I've never run a car as powerful as the RS6 and it's been nagging me for 3-years already. I've run E46 M3; M3 CSL; 911 C2S and an Aston Martin V8 Vantage through the years, but though all great cars, none does what the RS6 does. It just does everything I need with brutal power, so I can't just run a powerful diesel instead because the RS6 will still be there... nagging at meHYFR wrote:22k pa. in a 300 mile tank will very quickly pee you off
22k pa I would suggest a V6 twin turbo diesel
XF S
A6 Bi Turbs
535d
E350cdi

Re: Tell me I'm not mad...
I have done the powerful diesel thing - biturbo Audi and 535d are amazing cars - but once you drive the latest RS6 you won't want to go back

but you will be filling up every other day - it will pee you off
i just did 8,000 miles in 3 months in a car with a 300 odd mile range, and it did my head in
I had a XF S at the beginning of the year, 300PS / 600Nm - lovely car - took it to the highlands with a load of RS cars in the wet, it kept up no issues and was lots of fun.

Re: Tell me I'm not mad...
Perhaps my 2nd option is best then, buy the co car XF at the end of the term and run for 15k miles per year, buy a nearly new RS6 Performance for the rest. I can get a map on the XF to improve torque and feel like the RS6 stays special - also keeping the running costs of the RS6 in checkHYFR wrote:but you will be filling up every other day - it will pee you off

Re: Tell me I'm not mad...
Surely improving the performance of the Jag will take away from the RS6 though?
I will be doing about 20k a year in mine. The constant fuel stops are frustrating, although i must be doing well with my Shell Points!
I get where you are coming from though. I should have got a 3.0 TDI, but even when you're not using it, it's a nice feeling knowing you have 600bhp under your right foot. They also look great and are a rare sight.
Undoubtedly it's a great all rounder, but it's not a 'weekend' car for special days. For me, it's most gratifying using it to it's full potential - doing silly speeds one minute and then stuffing it full of crap from Ikea the same afternoon is very satisfying for me as an owner!
This weekend i got to show a clean pair of heels to my mate's 911R and then moment later had a photographer in the boot

Re: Tell me I'm not mad...
I am doing about 22K a year in mine - almost all motorway. It's a lovely place to be whilst munching up the miles and it still feels special every time I jump in. I cannot imagine cluttering up the driveway with another car just to keep the mileage down on the one I already own.
Fuel, tyres, brakes and service costs are all just part of the RS6 experience and need to be taken on the chin. They are nothing compared to the depreciation, anyway.

Re: Tell me I'm not mad...
Now that's where my original thinking was... its just the perfect 'do everything' motor. Yes its expensive (but running a 2nd decent car isn't cheap) and i know i'm in one of the best cars there is, nothing will trouble me for power and i'm pretty comfortable too. My original thinking was 22k miles mainly on Mways is what the C7 RS6 was created to do?robf wrote:Surely improving the performance of the Jag will take away from the RS6 though?

Thanks for the input, this is why asking a bunch of current owners is so valuable when stuck with bloke-dillemas. It's not so much the costs of doing 22k per year in it, it's whether or not it's a waste of cash to do 22k miles in it...
Re: Tell me I'm not mad...
Thanks for the opinion. How quickly are big spends such as discs needing replacing on 22k per year? Tyres and fuel I get, but I'm interested to know about the bigger costs.wildbore wrote:I am doing about 22K a year in mine - almost all motorway. Are you only getting 300m from a full tank too on mostly Mway? Cheers.
Re: Tell me I'm not mad...
I've only done 7.5k so can't comment about discs but there is a recent thread about tyres and discs, think they last about 20k.
I get about 300 miles to a tank on my commute which is nearly all motorway at about 60mph and a bit of traffic in the morning and similar on the way home but have a few chances to stretch it's legs a bit more but still a little bit of stop start.
ACC is great for motorway driving and I'd say a must if you are doing 22k a year on motorways.

Re: Tell me I'm not mad...
ACC is great full stop (on any road, I use it all the time), but mandatory for a motorway mile-muncher.MikeFish wrote:ACC is great for motorway driving and I'd say a must if you are doing 22k a year on motorways.
Re: Tell me I'm not mad...
What happened to the front numberplate on the RS6? Looks like a bit of sticky back plastic lobbed on the bumper!

I've done 23k in my V10 in 8 months - enjoy it.

At Autobahn velocity, yes, but in the UK you might as well be in an oil burner, same comfort, plenty enough performance, but a lot less fuel. It's a far more capable car than just battering along the motorway, where it's wasted.Yossarian wrote:My original thinking was 22k miles mainly on Mways is what the C7 RS6 was created to do?
Re: Tell me I'm not mad...
Surely it's not best on B-roads at 2 ton and as wide as a bus? Or urban posing? I can't see where the RS6 can be better than on long cruises fully loaded but capable whenever needed? I'd rather be in my MX-5 on B-roads.doodlebug wrote:At Autobahn velocity, yes, but in the UK you might as well be in an oil burner, same comfort, plenty enough performance, but a lot less fuel.
