I have a 911 and a C7. Prefer the RS6 for most of my driving - it is that good. If you liked the C5 you will love the C7.

Practicality confirmed for 911 this morning...

the 991.2 i have today is pretty epic fun.

I've also been to see two RS6's today... will post photo of them. one had two big tears in the tyre side walls. took me back that did to not having run flats. i can't believe they haven't replaced the tyre, no way i would drive it with such a dodgy tyre.

Yeah 991 plenty practical for under 10s with car seat. Which variant other than a cab?

RS6s seem to be appearing all over now. Great car but lost its sleeper appeal now. Residuals will continue to take a pounding.

991.2 Carrera is what i'm looking at, not cab... was more room for the daughter than i expected.

there were a few RS's at the Notts dealer, so good to get an idea.

New to this Porsche stuff but would the non rag top 991 not have more room in the back than the rag top? Is the case in most makes but no idea if this is the case with the 911.

Cant see the 911 slipping under the radar with your work though.
Im a bit the same with work.Porsche has too many connotations for most people and when I've had 911s they end up as expensive ornaments on the driveway though with prices of the air cooled ones now I wish I had kept them!
With the RS6 only the educated need know.

Yeah, thats the big dilemma... Need to be rebelious every now and then! ;)

Paul, yes, is more room in the coupe than the cab, which was a god test to show the Mrs for the magnitude of her seal of disapproval... as well as seeing how car seats actually fit, that one wasn't perfect fit, but not far off.

But, this is no longer the case. There are at least three others that park at my local station and I see plenty out and about now.

Get a 911 without a whale tail and there's not a lot between them without looking a bit closer.

I think most people just see an RS6 as a good looking big car but it obviously has massive kudos amongst petrolheads-especially those of us above 40.
A 911 just says expensive sports car to most people despite the fact they are a fairly sensible buy. Just public perception really.
Im in middle class area in suburbs of Glasgow and I would say I see about 30 Newish Range Rovers for every RS6.In fact for an area with lots of high end cars I can only think of seeing 1 new RS6.

I agree... you see a lot of RR"s, the occasional 911 and the odd RS6. I work in Oxford frequently, a good few Aston's and Mclarens, and regularly see a C5 & C7. needless to say a bucket load of RR's and n+1 bikes.

Hi Steve. I certainly remember you from our respective C5 days. Our car history has followed a very similar path. I went from C5 saloon to a Qashqai as the daily commute with a 996 Turbo as a weekend car to a C6 saloon to a C7 avant. Being a contractor I felt the pressure of watching eyes at work (like you) which is a large reason why I moved from the C5 in the dark days of the 2009 recession. On paper the 996 turbo was ideal but over the course of a couple of years I found it got used less & less to the point I think I only did 500 miles in it during my last 3 months of ownership. Interestingly I had nothing but positive comments from work colleagues when the C6 appeared in the car park and surprise when I sold it 12 months ago after 2 years ownership. I'm now at the point after a 12 months exodus whether to take the C7 (which I've had for the grand total of 48hrs) to work - the answer is yes but it will be on a infrequent sunny day basis. Since those dark days a few other nice cars have also appeared so I no longer feel like I'm sticking out. The point is you should do what you feel is right - I don't mean necessarily screw everyone else but life is too short to have regrets - I doubt anyone has ever lied on their death bed and regretted buying an RS6 or 911.

As to which 1 you should choose I'd say ... well I don't know actually - both such divergent animals it really depends what you want out your next car ownership. If you can live with less space a 991 C4S has to be the choice or a GTS if you want to ease the depreciation hit.

Rich.
