Hi zzz,

Sorry to hear that, online skimming solved my problem, done over 3,000 miles since I had them done, longest they have lasted yet :jump_clap: Wouldn't hold out too much hope for Audi sorting it under warranty :audibash:

Mine started to judder at 1760 miles, not taken it in yet, if they even try and charge me I shall reject it, especially after the cr*p I put up with on my b8 rs4 I buy cars like 911, m series and rs because I like driving not for anything else, I don't ever track road cars either - partly because I'm a cr*p driver

Any premier garage with a Pro Cut machine should be able to do this.

Enter your postcode to find one near you - http://www.skimmydiscs.co.uk/find-your- ... ce-centre/

I appreciate that new RS6 owners shouldn't have to go this route, but it's worth considering should Audi warranty decide against you.

Are the discs actually warped or have they got a build up of pad residue due to not being used hard enough? I had this on my B7 as well as many others; big brakes and light braking are thought to be the cause. Although it initially feels like warped discs it is only felt when a medium amount of braking pressure is applied; brake light or heavy and you can;t feel it. As opposed to actually wapred discs that feel like the are going to shake the car apart at high speed with heavy braking pressure and can be felt no matter how hard the pedal is pressed.

If I have shafted brakes after 2 months and 2k miles on a car with a 174 mph top speed limiter I don't see the point, even if I'd done 10000 miles the parts aren't up to the job of slowing the car down, we shouldn't even be discussing it as Audi should be providing parts that reflect the car or restrict the cars performance as the parts can't take the hammering? If and when I take it in and they say not covered then they'd better be prepared for a(nother) argument

Never mind the judder

Mine are squealing their tits off at slow speed braking...below about 5 mph!

Doing my head in.....done the old high speed braking, had them red hot, drilled holes out, degreased them, copper slipped them the lot... :audibash:

Worth a visit to Audi or wasting my time?

Cars got 15k on it and loads of meat on pads and discs?

Thanks for all the replies & links to skimmers. This is not looking particularly good that so many of us are having similar issues at a similar mileage. I've only been driving for 18 years and circa 500k miles, never warped disks before on any car.

Mike, I'll take it out for a quick blast just now and do some heavier breaking from high speeds to see if it's some pad scrub that's on the disks. Visually, I can't see anything wrong with them, no ridging, and no changes in colour at any point ( not had wheels off to look at the inside).

Chris, for the first time yesterday I got a bit of squeak while pulling into the drive

Did the dealer do that for you foc D8vil?

Just did a 20 mile run with some fast stops (braking hard to the point just before abs kicks in). It seems to have lessened the problem a little but still there.
Very light braking shows nothing, very hard braking gives slight judder, mid breaking gives severe judder.

I'll report back in a few days with any updates.

In other news, drywall screws are just about the right size to clear out the vent holes.

Zzz Sounds like brake pad residue build up to me. Skimming the discs will fix it but harder braking will be required to stop it coming back again. I suffered from this when I moved out of London where I'd brake hard a lot at traffic lights to the country where you broke slightly to approach a roundabout then of again so not really using the brakes much (I rarely come to a stop on the way to or from work).

Mike is corect; these will be pad deposits on the disc. You get this whenever you take a road car on tracks - it takes considerably more work to warp the discs.

Skimming will fix it, because you are taking the layer of pad deposit off, but there would be nothing stopping it from happening again (unless the pad composition has an odd bedding-in phase, and miracoulsly improves over time).

Doing some proper heat cycling (there are guides online) will fix it. As this is free, i'd try this before getting discs skimmed.

However, personally, if i had a car that had this issue almost immediately after the last set of brakes had been fitted, Audi would be recieving a letter from my solicitor. A car used on the road only should be 20,000 miles easily on pads and way more on the discs.

No problem with mine at 8000 miles - so far.
As for heat cycling, certainly worth a try but in my experience, while great for track pads, it gives only short respite on the sort of material the RS6 uses, and may even exacerbate the problem.
I think the trick with these cars in to gently run new pads and discs in for 500 miles or so. Whenever I have had a new car and run it in properly I have never had an issue with pad deposits, but I have had a few after brake change when the new set up gets more of hammering from day 1.
Manufacturers of after market performance set ups seem to prefer proper heart cycling / bedding in to ensure even pad deposits, but it has never worked that well for me on road pads.
