Bit pricey considering Litchfield are charging £600 for a stage 1 remap.

just checked their website From £1400.

I have used them in the past and cant fault their service, not sure I will be spending that much on a map though. Lichfield sounds a good deal and I believe they have their own RS6 for development.

I think that price difference is Stage 1 - Stage 2. The £1400 is I'm sure for a Stage 2 tune & will be a huge difference in performance.

I know so the £1400 is for a Stage 2 tune which is what i thought. In a post above it said 'looks expensive against Litchfields Stage 1 tune at £600', but it doesn't as a Stage 2 requires considerably more time/effort & produces far better/greater results, so of cause will cost more.

Saying that, £1400 for a Stage 2 tune is still pretty cheap when compared to others.

Litchfield Stage 2 is £2637 inc vat. So take the exhaust off that price (included in the price and fitting etc) and its still around £600 for the software.

If their Stage 2 includes a Milltek (i'm guessing it's just a cat-back) exhaust, not a chance it will be £2k for the pipes alone unless Milltek prices have shot through the roof so the stage 2 software will likely be £1000, which is still good value for a stage 2 tune.

cheapest Milltek I can find it £1900, not delivered or fitted

Anyway as you say good value. Going with GTR stuff any stage be it 1,2 3,4 or 4.25 is the same price £600. Moving from one stage to another is only £300. Why would the RS6 be any different??

I am sure I will find out once mine arrives and I start playing.

lol such a stupid tuning naming system. Basically the only good that is is as a product code.

The more recognised tuning stages go something like this.

Stage 1 - all stock engine, light mods such as boost increased.
Stage 2 - parts need changing, ie intercoolers, stock engine.
Stage 3 - go nuts, fully built engine.

Basically stage 2 could cost a bit but the jump to stage 3 could be massive. I guess that's why that company has split stage 3 into different chunks, but that means it's not comparable to other tuners' stage 3

That applies to any tuning. Call it what you want they are all the same.

Call it power then.

570-580 remap
590-600 remap & exhaust
600-610 remap, exhaust & intake
610-630 remap, exhaust, intake & injectors
630-680 remap, exhaust, intake, injectors & full de-catted system

I guess you pay and go. I think its a good way of getting what you want if you want to spread costs or 600bhp is all you want etc. Stuid or not it works.

my old GTR was classed as Stage 4.5 full bolt on parts including turbos but no engine work lol.

I think normally, for me anyway.

Stage 1 is remap only
Stage 2 is remap and exhaust, be it full decat or cat back
Stage 3 is what ever you want it to be in terms of bolts on parts
Stage 4 is engine out reinforced.

SVM offer 6 or 7 stages for the GTR.

I always thought;
Stage 1 was a remap on standard car
Stage 2 remap with exhaust and filter
Stage 3 extensive mods requiring comprehensive remap.

I don't get why the MRC stage 2 map costs so much. MRC do a stage 2 map for the B7 for about £600. OK so the B7 is N/A so no boost presures to deal with etc but the jump to £1400 seems a lot to me (assuming that is remap only and doesn't include filters / exhaust). I don't know anything about mapping but I presume they stick on a generic base map for starters then fine tune it to each car on the dyno. Or is it a case of higher cost to recoup their initial costs to develop the base map and the price comes down after a while when costs have been covered.

I would pay £600 all day long. I wont pay £1400 for a map but that's just me.

"You get what you pay for"? Does that mean DMS are ever better?? They are over £2k I believe. Madness

not into open wallet surgery.

I do agree though development costs must set any company back a huge amount and given there won't be may RS6's on the roads it must be hard to recoup their initial investment, not easy to keep everyone happy.
