Piggyback ecu's are a stupid way of doing it, you're not going to get as good results as with a remap and I think it's potentially quite risky feeding false information to the ECU, if something starts to go wrong you could fubar your engine.

Over here generally they will only refuse to honor warranty if something broke as a direct result, so basically anything in the power train is up to you if it goes wrong. Are you saying that over there if your headlight breaks they'll refuse to fix because you've had your car remapped?

Personally in your position I think I'd just enjoy the car stock.

A box will still leave tell tale signs on the ecu with out of range indicators. Simply taking the box out each time it goes for a service is no guarantee that the car wont get flagged TD1. That flag effectively means the warranty is shot.

It is beyond me why somebody thinks they can stick a box into a car to push it beyond the manufacturers specifications, and then if the worst happens, simply remove the box and expect the manufacturer to pick up the bill.

The question was asked why a custom tune is better than a tuning box & quite simply the tuning box is NOT written to a specific vehicle, it's generic (hence the comment earlier that you've spent £90k on a car & you're considering a generic tune) but a custom tune is applied & then tweaked (usually on a RR) to balance out any differences between individual vehicles which in cars with this much power can be fairly significant.

I'd be heading to see a therapist if i ever considered spending €7k on a tuning box that will NOT be that different to one off eBay for a few hundred ££'s. I gave them both the benefit of the doubt that the insane cost was for a custom tune so am in shock that i'd assumed wrong

Your insurance will still be invalidated if you have a serious accident and they discover your piggyback module / cabling loom, probably more so than an ECU remap!

Why don't you bring the car over to the UK for a decent custom tune? You could ship it from virtually anywhere in the world for less than the cost of the MTM piggyback unit!

Old topic but let's continue:) abt and mtm asks lot of money just for piggyback, you can get APR ecu remaps for just an 1000 eur and you will be with 680 hp and 900 torque, my question also is what is so important with those piggybacks are they better that ecu remaps?

P.s I am also now turning my head from abt or mtm tuning boxes or so called piggybacks systems or second ecu, remap and custom at good company is the best I think that Rs6 requires

Its all about having the warranty on the engine/drivetrain after a tune. If you do ABT/MTM Cantronic or ECU tune it will be logged into the Audi AG database on your car. As an option (cost around 600Eur) ABT/MTM take over the warranty up to 3 years from first registration date (new car).
I prefer not to take a piggyback tune due to cost and generic map . But if you want to tune and want to have warranty this is an option to consider. This can be installed by yourself and removed easily. Do NOT expect that Audi not will see that the car has been equipped with a piggyback box even if its removed. Specially if the speed limiter has been raised in the box. MTM can raise the limiter to 335 kmt. Audi max 305 kmt. If you go over this, Audi will be able to trace this and conclude your RS6 has been tuned. I have this statement written from the tuners.

Another option is to take a ECU tune with MTM/ABT and have warranty ref above. Still expensive at around 3 500 Eur, but its a cheaper solution than a piggyback box. You need access to a MTM dealer for this. Preferentially with a dyno so they can make you a specific map for your car. This is what i did with my 17 RS6 Perf.
