If my 6 ever got more than 14mpg I would be worried.
Your not trying hard enough, nowhere near.
Now get off the laptop, get in your car and drive it like it was designed for and you will find that smile will get a whole lot bigger.

Yep thats my philosophy

The 4 pot indicator is a bit of a joke though......can easily keep it in the green when freewheeling or going downhill. I once managed to get it to say 35mpg...for all of 5 seconds.....then I touched the accelerator to prevent it from coming to a gradual stop...and straight into 8 pot mode again!
I didn't buy this car to save on fuel........ but I did want to test Audi's claims.

Black magic.
One example..... current S6 V8 turbo saloon is 420 bhp (cough cough more like 440 450) and makes 225 g/km co2. Compare that to my dinosaur 4.2 V8 na which is only 339 bhp and makes 324 g/km co2. 100 horsepower more but 100 g/km co2 less?

It's not black magic. The S6 has a smaller engine and is a much more modern powerplant. This alone should make it close to your engine. Then factor into it that the S6 figures would have been derived when it was in 4 pot mode so effectively it was a 2 litre turbo with 220 bhp so it should wipe the floor with your S4 figures.
The only black magic bit is how they managed to do the tests with as little 8 pot action as possible but I bet they know exactly how to drive it without activating the other 4 cylinders.

Just as an experiment and completely understanding that most of us didn't buy our RS6's with mpg in mind, I'd like to invite readers of this forum just to post the maximum mpg they've achieved.

My best average was 400 miles Calais to Nantes, just under 7 hours inc 30 minute stop = 29.2mpg
Coming back 5.5 hrs = 23 mpg + 1 x speeding ticket .

On my C5 I decided to get a true measure of my best possible MPG at the start of a 125 mile motorway/dual cruise visiting family (A40/A34/M40 and back). I topped up at the start and finish and managed 126miles using 18.5L of V-Power for a figure of 31.5MPG. It was THE most boring drive I've done in the Audi, 50mph for the vast majority of the journey (traffic and roadworks) rising to 70mph very rarely and using no more than 1/2 throttle and even that was limited to only 2-3 times.
Using that figure I'd hope a C7 with cylinder switch off should get upto nearly 40mpg - LOL!!!!!!

Ian I can only go on how my car drives......its almost impossible for me to keep the green 4 pot bar going for more than a minute or two even if I'm driving at sub 50mph speeds......which is more often the case when I'm on the M25. Personally I think its a big marketing ploy this 8pot/4pot thing and I can't think anybody would buy an RS6 to drive on 4 pots.

Perhaps not, but it keeps the road tax down and has benefits for company car tax too. So Audi's 'lie' is for the benefit of the customer. Arguably, if it actually achieved those figures then that might be a bigger saving, but I bet even if it could achieve those figures most of you would be driving it in single figures / low double digits MPG.

Just to chip in here.
My long term average MPG is 16.8. I used to get a little more with my M5 (18.3) but the RS6 is far, far more useable and so I tend to use it. I have had runs where I've had a whopping 27mpg.. it gets kind of addictive to improve it.
