Safe mode - Ghost Immobiliser

Post by tonijade88 » Mon Jun 19, 2023 9:56 am

Hi Guys,

So I picked up my C7 RS6 this weekend after owning a B7 RS4 for 10 years and I am completely in love. It has got a Ghost immobiliser so I have to put a sequence in to start it.

I brought it from a really good friend who I have known for years. He came the day after I had picked it up to drop the spare key off to me at work as he always kept it somewhere that the car wasn't.

Thinking nothing of it I had the spare key and the main key with me when I got in the car, everything started ok and I drove home. When I got there the dash said SAFE and I tried to turn it off and on again and then the car wouldn't start. I spoke to him and he's never had any problem whatsoever with the immobiliser but also never had the 2 keys together in the car. He's just as confused as me.

I tried to lock the car with the spare put it completely out of the way and start it with the main key, this worked so I thought maybe I had just confused it, but I have just come to start it again this morning, put the code in and twice it started but cut out immediately, third time it worked but it still says SAFE on the dash.

Before I take it to a garage to see if they can do anything I just wanted to check am I doing something wrong? Or does anyone know how to reset this?

Thanks so much
Toni

Dont imagine it is anything to do with having 2 keys in the car, i had a key that was playing up so had both in my pocket for a week or so until i got the time to put new batteries in and clean the contacts without any issues with the car. Have you tried the ghost in valet mode?

No but I will try that first, the spare key starts the car fine no SAFE mode but that is without the sequence needing to be put in! Think I am out of my depth with the electronics on this one!! I will try the valet mode first. Thanks so much

with my ghost it always says safe mode

when I first got my ghost there were quite a few occasions where I couldn't get the car to start properly....It was simply me getting used to the ghost...Obviously the correct code needs to go in, but it also needs to go in with the correct rhythm if that makes sense, one button after the other without any pauses or even speeding up..

I hope your problem is as simple as this

Thank you so much for this!!

I think this has been my problem I have panicked getting the sequence in and I was doing it too quickly!! Just need to take it slower and its been working every time since!!! :notworthy:

if you have Ghost 2 you can pair it with an app on you phone .
You need to have the app on when you get in the car and the phone with you but you don't need the code .

it actually makes your life way easier
