Deleted resonator

Post by johnny11 » Wed Aug 05, 2020 10:45 pm

My car went into my local audi garage last week to have its oil, spark plugs changed and full inspection done, complimentary from audi uk through previous problems. I got sent the audi cam footage and it states “I’m sure you are aware that the resonator has been removed” which they say could cause mot issues. Now I bought the car from Leicester audi 2 years ago as a standard car and I have had the car 2 years and never modified it in any way, this is the second service and MoT I have had done and this wasn’t picked up on either of them and when I bought the car I was never told about this. I have contacted audi uk and recorded it with them as the car has another year extended warranty and wanted to make sure that if there was any claim that would point towards the resonator this is how I bought the car. Don’t get me wrong it passed the mot but surely this should of been picked on the 145 point check before I bought the car 2 years ago.

Pic today as sun was out :bigblink:

That's a bit cheeky - perhaps they've gone down to a 144 point check and they just make assumptions about the exhaust

I'm pretty sure most mechanics wouldn't have spotted resonators missing. You think every mechanic knows how many resonators there are on every model of car that comes through their workshop? Or that there is a tickbox on the 144 point check that says ensure no resonators have been removed. When I did mine you could have mistaken it for a factory exhaust.
And the fact they think it might fail an MOT proves how much they actually know. The resonators are to reduce sound, not emissions. My car flew through its MOT with front and centre resonators removed.

I'd be grateful for getting a free exhaust mod.
