Brake pads/discs

Post by Wattsm666 » Sat Jul 11, 2020 10:27 am

My brake pads now need replacing, which is the first set after 35,000 miles. Audi have suggested the discs need changing as well and I will get them measured, but does it sound right one set of pads = new discs as well

Someone else has given me a second opinion and confirmed the discs need changing, they are wavy/grooved. They also said some mercs only get 20,000 miles from a set of discs.

My front and rear discs were changed simultaneously with the first set of pads at around 28K. The front discs were changed due to wear, the rears due to corrosion arising from a lack of wear. There cars like to be driven hard, and I just don't do those sort of journeys.

I had my front discs changed at 37,000 miles. They were worn to their absolute minimum. Conversely the rears didn’t need replacing according to the Audi report.

yes, this is the most frustrating thing with this car, whenever you need pads you need disc$$$ at the same time, stupid design

I believe they can last 100,000 miles plus. But check this out. If they get damaged can be very expensive to replace though

Ceramic discs are meant to last around 100k miles. Problem will be when the car approaches that sort of mileage only an idiot will buy a car with ceramics unless they plan on swapping all 4 calipers, discs and pads for the steel versions which will still be relatively expensive compared to the cost of the car.

Sounds about right. I sold mine with 32k miles and original discs but 2nd set of pads. I bought a set of 410mm discs to replace the fronts but sold the car before they were manufacutred.

I just had to have my front discs and pads changed along with my rear pads. I took it to an Audi specialist in the end as needed it done asap as was driving to Cornwall. If it helps it cost around £1580, not sure if that's a good price but i needed it doing in a rush my light was on the dash.

Sorry to jump in on your thread.

But is there any issue switching from CCB to steel rotors? Are they exactly the same size etc?
