Which Extended Warranty would you recommend?

Post by ChrisYates10 » Thu Oct 31, 2019 10:20 pm

My car comes to the end of the Dealer warranty at the end of January 2020 and I've started to think about whether or not I should have an extended warranty. There are a number of providers, including Audi and I wondered what you all think. Who would you recommend and why? Do you have Extended Warranty products and if so, what type and who with?

My car was registered in 2015 and has done just over 31,000 miles. Does anyone have anything similar and how much does your warranty cost?

Thanks in advance for your feedback.

Audi warranty is worth a look. Much less hassle if there's a claim than others..

Warranty Wise are pretty good. They’re strict about the terms of their warranty but they are not contorting themselves out of shape to avoid paying out.

I’ve had 3 warranties with them in the past and have just about broken even with them each time.

Hi Chris,

When I bought my car back in June (64 plate 24K miles), the dealer sold me a WMS warranty. 3 years for £1800 and told me it covered everything (except the usual wear and tear items), I was a bit skeptical at the time but went with it. A couple of weeks later I received the warranty book and when I spoke to them, there was a lot that wasn't covered such as ICE \ Sat nav and LED lights.... I was in two minds at the time and so decided to cancel the warranty (after checking if I could get an Audi Approved Warranty) and in the end I went with Audi @ £1300 for the year.

With my old C5 I had an Audi Approved Warranty and had lots of issues with the DRC and the warranty was great, they paid out multiple times to try and fix it, and in the end paid me to get it all replaced with coil overs at a specialists.

SO because of my experience I would go with Audi Approved everytime!

As your car is coming to the end of its warranty, you might find thats 'only' about £700ish for the year... You can go onto https://www.insurewithaudi.co.uk/extended-warranty and get a quote to see how much it is...

Maybe there are others such as WarrantyWise that offer a good cover, but for me it just seems easier that its all done at Audi as I plan to keep the service history at Audi.

Hope this helps...

Lig.

Mine is a 2015 car and renewed with Audi extended warranty total price was £900, and that was for all component and £0 excess.

That's very good and less than the website is quoting me. Did you discus that with them on the phone or was that the quote that the online quote service offered?

No all done online, realised my car only had 20 left on the warranty, went online got the quote and paid.

Does anyone know if it’s possible to obtain Audi Warranty if the car was purchased from an independent dealer and not Audi Approved?

I think you can, there are a number of variables to consider, mainly any gaps in the dealer service history, any previous modifications and / or how long it has been out of Audi warranty.

Certainly you can / could with Porsche, they get you to do a service and their 111 point check and if both are sound you can take out their warranty (you also have to replace any non-OEM parts or consumables including wiper blades before the policy starts).

Although I recommended Warranty Wise earlier I would still take a manufacturer’s warranty first (unless it was heinously priced (and sometimes they are just to discourage you from the policy)).

I spoke to them when I was deciding on a car and they don't seem to mind. You can just get the registration of the car and enter for a quote online.

In the end, I went Audi warranty but did buy approved

I renewed my warranty with Audi for the second time; all components, £250 excess and up to 10,000 miles. It was a steal (IMO) at £556.71 (£556.46 for 2018). Haven’t needed to make a claim against it yet but would expect no quibbles - my local Stirling Audi branch are great and have always treated me well over the many years that I have used them.

Seems strange that prices quoted in this thread are higher than what I paid- possibly I will see similar pricing next year if I manage to get the odometer past 20k.

I’ve had my car since new (2014) and have now reached just over 19000miles, full Audi service history and on annual oil change service pattern. I only manage to drive it a for few thousand miles a year now, always allow it to get to +92degc before any serious throttle, generally dont drive at high speeds and always show some mechanical sympathy for both the engine and the brakes allowing everything to cool back down before parking up. Maybe this is all captured and taken into consideration when calculating the premium?

Yeah that is a great price.

I got my car back in June, 64 plate with 24K on the clock. All comps - £1040 with £250XS and under 10K miles. I also had to wait a month before the warranty would start.
I got a quote on a very similar car (age and mileage) that the same non-Audi dealer had and for the same it was £800 and allowed instant start.

It must depend on service history (mine has full Audi) but mainly how long it has been out of warranty (I think)....

Worth getting a quote Chris as you can choose the start date. I chose max XS and all comps as I would only use it for something major (engine \ turbos \ DRC).

Let us know what sort of prices you are being quoted....

Cheers,
Lig.

Thanks mate, I’m in the market for an RS6 and I’m constantly switching between Audi approved and independent dealers. The selection appears to be better with independent but I have a nagging feeling that Audi Approved would be a safer bet.

Hi LRB23, I thought the same as you, but if you can find the right car at a specialist, that has full Audi service history, low miles and you get a good feeling from the dealer then I don't see any reason not to buy it. That's what I ended up doing and then buying the Audi Approved Warranty. All in, you are most likely to save a good few £K too. Like Gikseiman says, you can get an Audi warranty quote just from the reg number. So you can find out how much and to make sure its possible before you buy the car....

Good luck in your search...
