Poor performance?!
Poor performance?!
Hey all,
I've had the RS6 for about 3 weeks now and before I purchased, I read about watching out for hesitation and lag especially during the test drive.
Over the last few weeks, I've been feeling a hesitation from the car but I thought it must just be me getting used to it.
However, tonight I was joining a motorway ( gear in sports, and auto mode) and a Golf R Infront was just pulling away gracefully ?!..
I was scratching my head and reading up on several things and have owned a golf before and looking at bhp and torque compared to an RS6...even chipped, doesn't get near a 6! Supercharged Golf only hits 480 or so BHP..
Am I missing something or am I experiencing a dreaded turbo failure? Anyone around the Standsted area that is really familiar with the car?
Many thanks!!

Re: Poor performance?!
Hi Gikseiman,
It doesn't sound good, but can you not easily tell that it is down on power? i.e You didn't get pushed back in your seat when you floor it?
I would put it in Dynamic and floor it from almost a standstill and see if it flys or not. Hard to judge against another car as you don't know what has been done to the other car.
Also if it was a failed turbo, would there not be other symptoms\noises and any warning lights???
Interested to know the outcome...
Cheers,
Lig.

when my turbos failed other than no power and lumpy idle there was nothing to see or hear. Not sounding great

Re: Poor performance?!
The problem is I haven't had a performance vehicle for a while, since the kids.
Hence when I got the RS, it felt extremely quick compared to our runaround and the X5 I traded in which I drove like a grandad.
Hence like you said, could be subjective, and initially thought it was just me getting used to the power until a hot hatch essentially pulled away easily..and I was like huh!? Then really got me thinking something was wrong.
I've booked in next Wednesday for diagnostics so will let you know what happens.
Interestingly, when I purchased I asked about the spark plugs and they said it was changed on last service. Today I asked again, and they said they are not due till 40000miles..
Anyone know for sure or had yours changed after 2 yes?

Hi Giksieman,
You want to register with 'MyAudi' https://my.audi.com (You need your account verified at an Audi dealer, V5 and ID required) as this will show you the full service history and what has been done (or it should), even if it hasn't always been serviced at a main dealer, most specialists can update this online.
Going by the book, they are correct and spark plug change is 40K miles \ 6yrs. Although looking at my history, mine were changed at the dealer at 15K miles for some reason??
I take it you are getting it looked at at Audi? IF it has warranty then you have nothing to worry about (fingers crossed)!!
I understand lumpy idle to mean not smooth consistent revs on tickover, so a hesitating \ jumpy rev counter needle on tickover. But I am answering for Paul here
Cheers,
Lig.

Re: Poor performance?!
I think it’s you getting used to power, maybe need a ecu remap, but I would stay stock, it’s more than enough and less headaches after all
Re: Poor performance?!
I would be very happy if it was just me getting used to the power.
However when a hot hatch which is half the cost with a single turbo and half the engine pulls away like that.. It just doesn't feel right

It's reminds me of driving the runaround (fiat 500 at one point) and everyone just accelerates away.
All under warranty so fingers crossed all is covered.

Thanks, will get done next week also.Lig wrote: ↑Thu Oct 24, 2019 3:38 pmHi Giksieman,

Re: Poor performance?!
I drove home one night. Accelerated to pass as car and it had power then lost power. Drove fine all the way home other than no power, about 50 miles. Pulled up at my house and was lumpy as hell. Never recovered.

You could get it dyno tested ? Get car logged on road before and after dyno toogikseiman wrote:Hey all,

Good idea. I'll see what the dealers say first and I might get it dyno'd. Any recommendations down south?uplandsway wrote: ↑Thu Oct 24, 2019 7:10 pmYou could get it dyno tested ? Get car logged on road before and after dyno toogikseiman wrote:Hey all,

I may be heading up North this weekend also and read some good reviews on awesomegti?
Re: Poor performance?!
It can be anything tbh...
One issue i once had was....i had 1 of the 2 turbo pressure sensors malfunction. It didn't throw a visual code (check engine light for example) but once i read the car with obd scanner it showed up. Car wasn't making full boost and felt lumpy. A quick visual indication was....since it was a boost issue, the boost gauge in the lap timer.
But like said, can be anything. Not sure if it are the spark plugs tough, that would more give you misfires (feeling as random power cuts) and if there are too many misfires you would definatly get an check engine light error (some misfires are common, hence why audi only throws an error once there are xx amount of misfire in xx periode).
Could be a vacum leak aswell, won't show up in the display but most of the times if you scan the car.
Imho, get yourself obdeleven dongle/app so you can scan and live log the car....or leave it to the 'experts' (dealer).
Unless the golf was high tuned....
No real need to dyno it, you can actually log with scanner how much torque the car is pulling (with obd11/VCDS scanner that is).

Re: Poor performance?!
Thanks dasquade. I checked VCDS and they range from like a tenner to 225 bucks for the cable + software? Did you get the Ross tech one or any will do?dasquade wrote: ↑Thu Oct 24, 2019 10:11 pmIt can be anything tbh...

I was thinking that also about the Golf. A stage 4 would give 470ps and 405lbft still quite a bit short.
If it was, I'm less fussed, just don't want to have spent ££ getting a dud vehicle
Regarding boost, do you see this go to max on your laptimer display when you put your foot down? I never see it go past 3/4, usually around 1/2..
