Help - Car will not start

Post by bob bobster » Mon Oct 08, 2018 10:49 pm

Hi all

I've got 2015 facelift model which i thoroughly enjoy having come from the c6 which was great but got a slight issue with the car as it simply will not start and any help or thoughts would be greatly appreciated .

The key opens the car and pressing the start button the dials spin but pressing the brake and then pressing the start button nothing at all .. no clicks whirrs whizzles nada its like i have it gear and then tried to press the start button.

I've had the battery checked its reading 12.6 v and also checked it while trying to start the car incase it was collapsing but its okay. I also tried disconnecting the battery and leaving for 10 minutes to possibly reset the modules (RAC have been out) but made no difference and also checked every fuse in the drivers side, passenger side and boot but all ok and theres no light or error message on the dash

I've had a search on the forum but couldn't find anything and if anybody could suggest any possibilities before i get it lifted back to the stealers that would be great

Thanks again

Bob

Just a thought and probably not it, but have you checked the brake lights come on when you press the brake pedal (with ignition on)? Possible the brake switch has gone and the car can't see you pressing it. Easy one to check.

Hi Mike
thanks for the reply that did cross my mind initially but the brake lights come on the only problem is the pedal is getting harder to push each time you press it and hardly moving now but enough to get the lights on
cheers

Have you tried pulling the gearstick into “N” neutral. Also try pulling it in and out of “P”. You’ll need the ignition on and foot on the brakes.

Have you tried using one of the spare keys instead? Even the black plastic one if you have it. Seperate part of the key does the ignition and the immobiliser. I'd imagine you'd get a yellow immobiliser warning if it was that but easy to check.

tried moving it to N and back to park but no joy and tried the other key and still no joy.
just a side/stupid question the black key opens the doors but will it start the car and if so where do you put it ? the manual doesn't seem to give any clues
thanks

Hold the black key up against the reader / aerial bit on the dash with the key symbol to the right of the SD card slots.

So it's not the key. Did you check brake lights come on?
