MTM M-Cantronic box

Has anyone had one of these fitted and the reported 675hp confirmed on the rolling road?

Trying Racechip tomorrow, unofficial word is one company makes the boxes for them, MTM and AC Schnitzer but not sure how much truth there is in that. Going to run it for a week and then dyno to see what the results are power / mpg wise and see if it is worth keeping.

Kim Collins is using MTM Cantronic on his RS7.

All those boxes are crap, working progress can damage engine, the piggyback fools ecu and sends crap signals to actual ecu, I don't understand why people install them, bestbisnto do proper ecu remap

And that is your technical assessment is it? Have you tried all of the tuning boxes? If not you're not really in a great position to slag them off. Instead of the hyperbole I'll actually be trying it, worst case is if I don't get on with it, 5-10 mins to remove instead of taking to my keyboard and writing bollocks.

Initial impressions is that there is a power and torque increase and it is relatively linear with a little bit more lag but I suspect that will be the gearbox having to adapt to the characteristics. The shift down from 8th on motorways is invariably to 7th now rather than 6th to get the same rate of acceleration but with less throttle usage. In sport mode the pull is far more urgent on WOT.

Will be running it this week on commute and then on a dyno on Saturday which I have already run my car on to get a baseline to see what the numbers roughly are against what is quoted.

Go easy on him GSC, he's an old timer on here and you will get his humour one day!!!!!!!!

just make sure that whatever box you trial the exhaust fumes are vented through a Milltek because according to tadass without a milly whatever u do with the 6 it will be crap 🤣

Just wondering if those powerboxes actually check the cars performance and create a smooth curve...
My s6 recently got tuned to stage 2 and did almost 10 dyno runs, several before, several tuned and fine tune runs and a final dynorun. Just saying...

I recall him from the last time I was on here and his humour hasn't improved, reminds me why in part I left. Opinions I can deal with, unsubstantiated / unsupported 'opinions' I can't

Just as well I have an RS7 then, might get away without a Milly!

The thing with the tuning boxes is they don't eek out the last bhp and ft/lb or power, they operate 'within parameters' like the OEM map on the ECU. All they work to achieve is raising the tolerances of boost, pressure and fueling within manufacturer safe limits.

If I wanted the absolute best performance I would have gone ECU map but it has its cons as well so this is the compromised solution that best fits my circumstances. Gives a power boost, supposedly (time will tell) better economy, easy usage / fitting / dismantling and at a competitive price point. The dyno at the weekend will hopefully demonstrate how well it operates at which point I decide whether to keep or return.

MTM M-Cantronic box

So the Box relies on the GB adapting to the new shifting requirements as opposed to the conventional GB map?

From previously enquiring about these with ABT they work within a defined safety margin - which could feel like your being held back - whereas a custom tune will extract what is possible?

Have you experienced this so far with the box GSC?

ZF and s-tronic have adaption though and we are only talking up to 20% more power and torque at best which are well within these boxes tolerances. Worst case is I take the car to the dealer next service and ask then to reset the ZF learning parameters.

Mind to share more about those tranny reset parameters?
Is that the same as clutch and valve reset adoptation?

My understanding is like the ECU, s-tronic and ZF learn how you drive against throttle input, manual paddle shifts etc. In my RS3, I had the stronic reset and it improved the shifts to be smoother and less jerk reaction from me manually shifting most of the time.

So a bit like clearing DTC's using VCDS, Audi plug into the box, press reset and it starts learning how you drive again.

boxes deffo have their place. Burger tuning (mostly BMW) have one of the fastest 335i's running a tuning box. I had a box on my S3 made a big difference (had a wee play with a 8V RS3 and he got in my way) with no issues over 8k miles. Made the S3 a pretty quick car
BMW 540i
2018 GTR
F90 M5
X3MC
RS3 Saloon
RS7 FL best car I've owned. No faith in turbo oil screen (turbos failing) or sticking oil scraper ring causing missfires.
F10 M5 LCI still no rear grip lol
S7 black Edition Too big and heavy
S3 8V FL DSG 310ps, road noise is a joke
RS3 8P Rubbish
C7 RS6 Fantastic car but missed playing
GTR R35 800bhp, too extreme, crazy fast though
911 Turbo Remapped. Hated it
F10 M5, awesome but no rear grip
RS6 V10 700BHP crazy
Porsche Cayenne Turbo S 600bhp
