Car security /tracker

Post by bigbaz1974 » Wed Aug 16, 2017 9:05 pm

Guys,

Just picked up my RS6 today and it only has audi security. The car is kept on the drive overnight but for piece of mind I want to upgrade the security a bit from factory. Can you offer any suggestions on decent alarms and also tracker. Any information would be much appreciated..

Congratulations, post some pics. I don't know much about the extra security.

To deter thieves who don't want confrontation then a Disklok is a must, and if you have Advanced Key you'll want one of these to stop the house scanner theives: http://amzn.to/2v3HTN2

Trackers are pointless unless a) the insurance company insist on one and/or b) it's installed in an unknown place. However due to there being very limited places to install, they tend to be found very quickly and ripped out.If it's not needed by your insurance company then put the money towards an Autowatch Ghost system instead.

Sadly though, if they want the car that much, they will do whatever it takes, as many on here have found out.

I had a tracker but removed it after finding out it was pointless. Apparently, with the advances in technology, they can now be jammed by a device that thieves plug into your cigarette lighter.

Didn't affect my insurance at all by removing the tracker, so maybe the insurance companies know they are useless too.

I bought a GPS tracker cheap on fleabay. It allows real time tracking and GPS printout of car location, speed and direction. My daughter found it really handy when she had a bump in the car, the GPS overlay on google maps showed exactly where she was, had been and what speed she had been driving....

Other than that, if that want it, they'll get it. You need something that is GPRS and GPS enabled but it just peace of mind rather than anything else.

How about a cheap 2nd hand iPhone? Assuming you have iCloud, just keep it switched on in the car (hidden) & use Find My iPhone as a tracker.

May not be the best of solutions, but certainly cheap & simple.

If you own the land the car is parked on, you could also install an anti-ram raid bollard? Concreted 800mm into the ground. For me this was the best peace of mind because nobody is taking mine without making a hell of a racket first.

Yes, but if they want it, they'll wave a weapon at you and you'll unlock it! It's partial deterrent but nothing more.

Hopefully they will see it as a chew and move in to an "easier" steal.
