Exit Stage Left?

Post by stevo55 » Mon Jul 03, 2017 8:52 am

So this past month or so I've had a bit of a reversal on the 'head and heart' with the rare result that my head has now taken over and I've come to the conclusion that I'm paying far too much for what is, after all, just a car. Seeing as I had to jump through a few hoops to get into the car the irony of the whole situation is not lost on me! Broad shoulders and all that.
I'm just about 4 months into a PCP deal and my current settlement is around £68k. Ideally I'd like to downsize and have a few more hundred quid in my back pocket every month. The car is everything I expected and more but I'm giving away a mortgage payment every month and I don't live in the car.
So...what to do? Sell privately and get the max I can to pay off the finance? Trouble is selling a car privately is ALWAYS a total ball-ache however I'd like to think that the higher priced end of the market would weed out the usual lunatics and idiots that come out of the woodwork. I could also try a dealer to 'lump and bump' the finance onto another car but so far that's proved a dead end although each dealer is different. Also considering CarWow although I don't think dealers are going to offer me any more than £60k as they need to make profit.
Failing that I'll hang onto the car until the situation is more favourable.
Big question is though-what to get next? Budget would be around £50k (monthly payments around the £800 ish mark ideally). The GT-R has raised its head again and there are 2012 tuned low mileage ones within that budget-would have to drive and try it out for daily drive suitability though. Looking at an M4 Competition Pack tomorrow and also looked at a C63S last week but they couldn't work the finance so didn't test drive. Obviously the last two are RWD and I'd lose that all year round capability. The Merc sounded the nuts though and has a real bruiser presence about it which I liked.
Trouble is the RS6 really ticks all boxes as discussed many times before. As I've said before I'm hooked on great cars and not from a particular marque.
Any suggestions?

Cheers Bamster will give it a punt although am not expecting too much joy to be honest! There'll be a ton of interest as it's a huge spec and a current model but think they'll just take the pi55 with prices.

Tootle will give you a fair indication. I'd say you'd be looking at high 50s/60ish. Spec is good but not stellar, plenty in the market, and that's now biting.

Apart from 'ramics, Audi connect and night vision (not sure who uses it though) the spec is pretty mega-original owner put £14k's worth on.
Estimate of high 50's is about what I'm expecting.....and also not really an option as I'll be needing to pay around £68k to settle finance. Is what it is I guess.

I'm in a similar spot... testing the water currently.
Only had it 5 months and their are some pretty cheap ones about now which is frustrating but I'm not 100% on getting rid just yet.

It's just not floating my boat like I thought it would.

I sold my C63 estate on Tootle back in May. Simple process, a few good offers. Went with a company in the North called Revilo Automotive who provided a first class service. You can try them direct - ask for Mark.

Trouble I (and E14STO) are going to have is the settlement total. If someone offers me £60k that still leaves me £1-7k short to settle the finance. Then I need to get into another car. Becomes a false economy if I shell out 7 grand just to save some money. Expensive beasts these things.

Careful talking sense like that around here, you'll get shot down and accused of talking the market down. No no no, his car is worth £70k all day long, apparently trade values have very little to do with what a car is worth,...

Give GC Motors in Harrogate an email or a call. They purchase high end cars at just above trade price, I've sold a couple to them now.

Also use the Audi valuation tool to get your ball park...

https://www.audi.co.uk/used-cars/part-exchange.html

Tootle is also good and you will have a couple of offers above trade.

RS3 Saloon and RS5 have literally just opened their order books. RS5 a little pricy at £70k with spec but RS3 Saloon at £50k with spec is going to be a hoot I would think, 400hp out the box and with that brilliant sounding 5 cylinder engine, I'd think a good buy.

Thanks Leo the new RS3 is a consideration for sure if I end up keeping the car for a while longer. I've got used to Quattro now so going back to RWD and the possibility of leaving the road backwards in the wet very easily isn't ideal

The Audi valuation has it at base £59k that's not taking the spec and colour etc into consideration. I tried Alex at Fontain, lovely bloke and very user friendly. Loved the car but the figures were a no-go unfortunately. I think it's going to be either a lump and bump with whoever (missus just did this with £7.5k worth of neg equity and ended up in a better deal at fewer years with lower payments), or keep the car until it balances out more or just go for a private sale and get as close as I can to clearing the settlement figure.
