A-Plan -
Tracker if on the drive, no tracker if garaged from 10pm until 6am when at home.
Hence no tracker for me but it's garaged religiously

I was always a little dubious about ticking the garaged option cos if you are at friends house, let's say 2.5 miles away, and your car is stolen or damaged at 12pm then you are not covered.

Yes, but it's Churchill!!

The NFU policy is by far the best I've seen.

They assured me mike I was covered for theft unless it was stolen off my drive overnight. I asked about hotel, working away and visiting relatives and they assured me it would be covered.

I suppose they are protecting themselves against planned thefts where people know the car regularly resides as opposed to opportunistic thefts

Fair enough. It was a long time ago, maybe they've changed or maybe it's just a good policy.

My insurance is <£400 but do recall a tick box saying car valued under £75k, which mine is.

However, same insurance company wanted a tracker fitted to the wife's Q3 if I wanted a two car discount!!! Must be something to do with types of car that are more likely to be stolen in specific areas.....but never heard of Q3 being stolen in Aberdeen!? Hey ho.

I am currently using Churchill, I will not be as of September. Appalling for changes to policy, Charge you for everything so if you have a few cars and change them it adds up fast. I changed job this year. They wanted to bill me £40 for changing the role I was in. I never even thought to tell them I was changing. I guess it makes sense but will they want your clothing and music taste next ? My choice of music is probably more relevant to my road speed than my job!

I asked re driveway and garage and ended up selecting driveway just in case. If you are at home it must be garaged. If you are away it does not. It did however need a tracker grade 5 or 6. I will be flipping to A Plan as we used them before and the service was far better. They only act as a front for other insurance companies so be careful to ensure you are happy who they put you with.

Re the Q3 in Aberdeen - My last visit home to Aberdeen showed more SUV that almost everywhere (that great farming town of London excepted) in recent memory but then the weather probably supports that ! Oh that and carrying the Butteries, they are a bit dense.

Hahahahaha...... A very valid point!! I'm with Priviledge. A few months left on I sura certain when I had the 4 and changed to the 6. No cost or extras which was pleasantly surprising. Renewal was over £100 cheaper than anywhere else.

I could have got a cheaper policy where no tracker / garage requirements existed (think priveledge were the best) but I'm on modified insurance and they wouldn't touch it

Totally agree. I moved to NFU this year & not only were they the cheapest, the policy & reputation appears to the up there with the best in the industry

A significant plus is they provide New for Old as standard on their policies for 2 years (others & not all insurers only offer one year). This kind of does away with the need for GAP insurance which when factored in makes the cover even cheaper/better.

If I lived in the UK I would fit a tracker regardless of a requirement from the insurance.

Never got the need for tracker on a modern replaceable car unless insurance demands it. Not sure I would want it back after nicked and (often) damaged. That is what I pay I surance for.
But I can see the value in something very special you or not easily replaced.
When I ran a gorgeous old restored Porker I fitted a Rhino security post behind it. Just don't lose the key....
