Advice on a new PE
Advice on a new PE
I have put a deposit down on a new PE, but I'm a little confused at one or two aspects of the new car, I will speak again to the salesman but thought I'd see what owners think (the car is amendable for a while yet). My main question is around Dynamic pack, has anyone had the opportunity to compare it to a car on air and if so is it worth the extra? On that subject, the configurator is confusing me, the package is £2600, but includes matrix lights, dimming mirror and diff all of which are standard on the PE, you can save £400 by speccing the steering and DRC separately, it makes no sense to me. I have gone for a fairly low key look;
Daytona with gloss black (wheels also black)
Debadged
Silver leather (worried about keeping it clean)
Parking Pack
ACC
HUD
The latter two options may help me to keep my licence. I almost went Pan roof as it lifts the cabin, but in over two years of having it on my RS4 I have rarely opened it up for more than a couple of minutes and it has developed a very annoying rattle that the dealer has fixed a couple of times but it's always going to return. I'd also be interested if anyone else has come from a B8 RS4, I've really agonised over whether I will find the 6 too heavy and big for my tastes, but a day in the car pushed those thoughts aside as the power and delivery blew me away. Any thoughts and advice appreciated.

Re: Advice on a new PE
Air vs DRC. I estimate that they are one step apart level for level.
Soft on DRC is like Mid on Air and so on. Hard DRC is stiffer than any Air setting.
DRC cars cannot tow so if you need towing then Air is your choice.
On public roads pushing the RS6 to the point where the final setting will make the difference between road and hedge is pretty marginal so I went air for the relaxed motorway ride. DRC does take the floaty edge of it.
Not so certain about Daytona with the silver leather combo ? I did see one silver interior on a demo car and it just felt too much like a pair of M&S elastic waisted trousers on that scale. As always other persons tastes are respected.
You don't mention the exhaust, if you buy the non-PE then you need to add the noisy exhaust or play with an aftermarket and risk the warranty fluff.

Re: Advice on a new PE
Thanks for the replies, I'm undecided on DRC but the car I had a few hours in had the Dynamic Pack and felt pretty good, the ride in comfort was a revelation compared to my RS4 though I'm not one for driving near the limit on public roads, so it may be that I can spend the money elsewhere.
The PE comes with sports exhaust as standard and I understand your comment about lunar (not sure about the analogy though
), I'm just bored of black interiors and fancy a change but if I do reconsider it will be for the Alcantara. I have had problems with the pan roof on my RS4, the rattles are a pain and I rarely open it, though it makes the interior a nicer place to be I just feel the cost outweighs the benefit.
I'd be interested to know how your car behaves on air when you're pressing on, the settings you tend to stick to and how the steering feels (I was quite impressed with dynamic compared to the 4).

Re: Advice on a new PE
Dynamic pack also gives you an increased top speed doesn't it?
Re: Advice on a new PE
No rattles on my roof at all
Dynamic pack is a must for C7 IMO
Don't bother with sports exhaust...it's crap
Just get normal and ditch for aftermarket anyway.

Re: Advice on a new PE
For me the issue with air suspension is not about when driving on the limit; every single corner or roundabout has too much body roll for me. Coming from a very flat cornering B7, the C7 on air was just no good to me so DRC was an easy option.even on DRC it rolls too much but at least it is less than air.
But air is easy to lower and has adjustable height and it always level.

Re: Advice on a new PE
This is my main concern, I don't like roll and I'm also concerned about the steering on a standard set up. Any idea why the dynamic pack is £2600 but when ordered separately its £400 less? I assume it's an error but will press the sales guy for an answer next week.MikeFish wrote: ↑Sun Jun 04, 2017 10:29 amFor me the issue with air suspension is not about when driving on the limit; every single corner or roundabout has too much body roll for me. Re: Advice on a new PE
I've got air. Had to go for it as need to tow.
Testing them back to back the DRC made it feel a less heavy than air on the tight stuff. Think it does a better job levelling the car out.
More than happy with my air and I use the raise function on a regular basis.

Re: Advice on a new PE
I already said you also get a top speed increase with the dynamic package. On previous RS cars this has cost around £1000 alone.
Having said that I thought it was still cheaper to get the pack than the steering and DEC separately but it was a long time ago.
Re: Advice on a new PE
After damaging a wheel on my C7 PE, the only option I didn't have was the 360 parking camera.
Wanted 2500.00 as a retrofit, will save a lot of 21" scrapes......!!

Re: Advice on a new PE
Sorry, I missed that point and you're quite right. I am tempted to change my order to include the DRC and steering, though top speed doesn't bother me.MikeFish wrote: ↑Sun Jun 04, 2017 11:15 am
