Tragic death of 35 year old S3 owner trying to prevent the theft of his car!

Post by harrier » Sun Apr 23, 2017 5:24 pm

Ive just learnt of this dreadful incident, involving a 35 year old, former Royal Navy Officer, at 03:00hrs, seemingly trying to prevent the loss of his black, S3 in the night!

I know something of bereavement, though not so sudden and unexpected in my case and my heart goes out to his wife, family and friends, as I am sure it does from all of us on RS246.

Just read this, it could have been any car or victim for that matter. Sad.

Yes, car thieves will go to any lengths it seems - do hope they get caught.

I heard about this on the radio, and it mad me simultaneously worried, saddened and furious... I bet people will argue that the thieves don't deserve to just be shot. It's so awful that so many people's lives will forever be changed just for the stupidity and selfishness of some worthless scum. I'm sure the Police will talk about how it's just a car, and not to stand in the way of thieves, but is that really the solution? How about we make an example of these guys when they're caught and bring back the deterrent nature of law enforcement.

Hopefully some good will come of this and the Police will take this breaking into houses while families are asleep nonsense more seriously and really come down on these scumbags.

I had my RS4 stolen, thieves came into my bedroom while I was asleep! The fact it's not taken seriously by the police is the reason this poor man lost his life. People say it's just a car, let them have it. No, they can't have it!! It's not theirs and the police have a duty to deal with it.

What is it the police aren't doing? The CPS deal with the charges and the judge applies the sentence.

They know whos committing the crimes but dont act, the officer who came to my house predicted it had gone to bradford and the route it took. He was correct, a google search of the street it was parked on named a guy responsible for this type of crime. I even tracked the car to 3 locations which they didnt act on. I gave them a location with a witness on 25th July, they didnt check it out until 8th of October, only then when i discovered a chop Shop within 50m of it.

Personally if someone is willing to come into your bedroom as you sleep its a potentially life threatening situation, one visit and a crime number is hardly justice. More importantly it's no deterant to the people committing the crimes.

I think the police attitude to this type of crime was revealed in the statement that this particular incident had "crossed the line".

I believe that most people would feel that the line is crossed when a car is stolen, not just when it results in murder. Obviously this is so far over the line as to be near the end of the scale.

I think the line is crossed as soon as they try to gain entry into your home while your family sleeps inside.

The line is crossed when they think it's ok to take something that's not theirs. Most children learn this at about 4 years old.

Its not car theft when they break into your home whilst you are in it.
The tossers that came into our house came fully prepared with the tools to get into the house. Not just the car.

I agree that little is done following it. We have not had any follow up to us despite handing over the CCTV footage.
The replacement car is not going to be a high risk target.

As things stand there's nothing stopping scum like this from continuing to do what they do. Easy money for a night work. The blasé attitude of the police doesn't help and for those that do get caught, prison is no longer a deterrent but merely a place to catch up with old friends and learn about how to do better next time.

Ps: after chasing them I managed to hand in my cctv images from 3 angles with good views of one chap. Not a peep from them and not shared on their website which they said they would do a week ago.
