Lots of interesting options there! I looked at Teslas but am not too sure if I'm quite 'there' yet! I like my exhaust note and to just roll along silently would seem bizarre. Video reviews like this don't help!:

It's the future though.
Not sure I could live with a GTR as the lack of refinement would niggle me. The Alfa? Hmm well the infamous Alfa build quality might be an issue as well.
This is the thing. RS6 is pound for pound probably the best all rounder out there and possibly the best car Audi make. New one comes out 2018/19 and yes it's slightly dated but I run a C6 with tech dating back 12 years now!

I slightly agree on the retrade value, but at least over here (Belgium) S6's are very rare to find. Yes every bdy that can buy an RS will go for the RS (i would too), i was just giving an alternative, especially since OT mentioned he was on a budget (of 67.000£). I rather have the 'wrong sister' in terms of looks, but still be able to show her off if needed and keep some extra cash for wanted options versus a stock RS6.
Anyway, i got mine secondhand so the ceramic were almost a 'free' option (got the car nearly half price), discs last forever while the metal ones don't last long i think with such heavy car.
Haven't driven the RS6 hard to be able to compair it with the S6, only been giving some RS6 a hard time for their extra money ;).
In the end, again just an alternative :). Haven't regreted the S6 buy here...perfect sleeper at decent price.

Having owned both a tuned C7 S6 and now a C7 RS6 I can honestly say that the RS wins out every day on pretty much everything. That's not to say the S6 wasn't a fantastic car, it just lacked the character and ultimate finesse that the RS has. Also, when going into tuning with the S6, the s-tronic gearbox can be a bit of a weak point when starting to put big torque figures through it. Yes, for the money the S6 is great and put an aftermarket exhaust and remap on it and it will be close to the RS product but at the end of the day, the RS badge gives you a much better all around product but you do pay more for it.
I can't think of another car that gives you the all around package right now until the new E63s estate is released but that is going to be mega money!

I realise it's nearly double the OP's budget, but the new Alpina B5 touring with AWD looks pretty tasty:

Yes slightly out of my price range! Alpinas are pretty special bits of kit and a rare sight on the road (I owned an Alpina Roadster for 2 years and saw maybe 3 others on the road the whole time). Good to also see that BMW/Alpina and Mercedes have finally got with the program and going down the AWD route (X Drive and the new 4Matics all switchable)-whats the point of having all that power if you can't put it down on the road.
Mind you- 0-62 in 3.5 seconds and 205 mph!!   The C8 RS6 will really need to up its game to compete.

When it does it'll become a realistic alternative to the RS6, after 18 years with RWD I now can't really go back as an everyday driver. Definitely not missing that flickering yellow light in the dash all the time.

BMW still making noises around saloon only.
MB E63(S) with saloon and dog-squishing models.
