Rear Diffuser removal

Post by mat776 » Sat Jan 07, 2017 3:59 pm

Can the rear diffuser be removed without removing the bumper ?

Someone caught the edge of the diffuser whilst parking - not very noticeable and perhaps not worth repair if the bumper needs to be removed as well

Thanks

Yes. Workshop manual says remove.bumper but there was a thread on here and someone removed it and said it was very easy. There are 3 or 4 screws holding it underneath which are easy to remove. Then you need to split the diffuser from the bumper. I tried this and it looked a bit tight and I didn't want to damage my bumper so chickened out but it's meant to be easy using trim removal tools or a screwdriver covered in tape.

Thanks Mike - that's helpful - I'll get underneath and have a look

Do you know whether the exhaust tips can be replaced without removing either as well ?

Same happened to mine, but with pretty noticeable damage to the upright part of the diffuser and Audi are saying the bumper needs removed and resprayed to sort a little 2" scratch on the edge of the bumper just above the corner. If the diffuser can be removed without taking off the bumper I'll just get it replaced and polish out the worst of the scratch. For now anyway.

Have a look on ebay, the black diffusers were fairly cheap when I was on the hunt for a carbon one.
Martay, Audi will defo say bumper off job as that's what their workshop manual says.
